President's Letter
October 2017

"Start by doing what is necessary,
then do what is possible,
and suddenly you are doing the impossible."

                                                St. Francis of Assisi

Peace and Greetings:

Yesterday, the Catholic Church celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, born in
Italy in 1181, he founded the Franciscans religious order. This is an opportunity to acknowledge our gratitude to two members of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, Sr. Marie Benedict and Sr. Mary Mercy for their presence and contribution to our St. Paul community. In "continuing the call of St. Francis of Assisi" they "seek to enflame humanity with a sense of the sacred found deep within each person." Sisters, you are gifts to our families every day.

Our annual student Walkathon/Oktoberfest will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 6 beginning at 11:45 am. The Chunky Tomato pizza truck, Mr. Softee ice cream truck, dunk tank, bounce house, games, prizes, music and much more is planned for our school-wide community celebration. Community is one of our five core values ... and it takes a faith community to foster the unique greatness that's inherent in each of us as children of God.

There is no school on Monday, October 9 in observance of Columbus Day and Tuesday, October 17 due to the faculty attending the Archdiocesan Faith Conference at Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center.

There will be a noon dismissal on Wednesday, October 11 following the PSAT exam for sophomores and juniors. Freshmen will be involved in special workshops during the morning. Seniors are encouraged to visit colleges on this day. Senior parents, please review Guidance guidelines regarding November 1 college application deadlines.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 11 from 1:00-7:00 pm. If desired, parents should have their child schedule appointments with teachers beginning today (10 minute blocks). Please discuss your availability with your child.

Our next Open House for prospective students is Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am and again on Saturday, November 4. Please consider sharing our good news with others in your hometown.

We will be conducting a planned response drill in the event of an aggressive intruder for students/faculty to shelter-in-place or evacuate, as appropriate, under the supervision of the Bristol Police Department on Monday October 16. You will receive an emergency message that morning from ParentReach informing you of this drill. A reminder that you must answer "hello" to voice activate the emergency recording. Please notify the main office if you do not receive a call on that day or wish to update your emergency contact information. Be assured that your child's safety is of utmost importance to all of us.

Juniors will be on class retreat on Wednesday, October 25. Junior Class Night is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. All juniors and their families are encouraged to attend this special ceremony as we celebrate their transition as upperclassmen. Junior parents will be receiving invitations.

Homecoming Weekend is October 27-28 with the student dance scheduled for Friday from 7:00 - 10:00 pm and the varsity football game vs. Woodland High School on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Cheer on the Falcons and join us for our parent pregame pot luck cookout. More details to follow.

Lots going on! As always, my personal thanks to everyone who contributes in countless ways to the growth and success of St. Paul. I am inspired everyday by your thoughtfulness and generosity.

promoting and defending human dignity, we welcome St. Paul students and families to participate in the Annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Mass at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Sunday, October 8 at 11:00am.

Several years ago, St. Paul as a school community received the St. Gianna Beretta Molla Medal in recognition of our commitment to life. This year, President Cary Dupont will receive the award for his leadership.

Families are welcome to attend together. Participating students earn three Falcon Hours for representing St. Paul at the Mass. Students who do not ride the bus should check in with Mr. Duffany at the Mass.

Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for
Wednesday, October 11
from 1:00 pm-7:00 pm
Students will be dismissed at noon and buses will run.

Please discuss with your child(ren) the time you will be available on October 11.

Students can begin making appointments with their teachers starting on Thursday, October 5, 2017 d uring class time. As appointments are made with teachers, your child will fill in the appointment sheet so that you will know when and with whom the appointments are scheduled.

As you can imagine, there is not a sufficient amount of time for every teacher to visit at length with every parent. Therefore, priority will be given to those parents whose students are experiencing academic difficulty at this time.

Our school counselors will be available.  If you wish to meet with a counselor, please encourage your student to visit the Guidance Office to schedule a meeting.

Teachers and school counselors will post their appointment schedule outside of their rooms.

If your child does not schedule appointments for you, you will be able to write your name in an available time slot on the teacher's or counselor's conference schedule.

The administrators will also be available. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you when you are here.

Please welcome Miss Laura Stabile to the Guidance Department
Here she has shared an "All About Me" message ---- I am excited to be joining St. Paul Catholic High School as the new school counselor! I have received a warm welcome from everyone I have met and am feeling blessed to be a part of this community! Some fun facts about me include my love of travel, singing, art, tea, and being able to learn something new to share with others. I am passionate about being a school counselor and share a seat on the Connecticut School Counselor Association Board. I always try to see every situation with a positive light and can hopefully help the students at St. Paul's grow in their spiritual, personal, academic, and career development. Please feel free to see me at any time for any matter or just to stop in for some talk-and-tea! You can also schedule an appointment with me in advance with this link   https://stabile.youcanbook.me/ . I look forward to meeting everyone and have a great year!
