Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes available in Schilling Hall
Help make someone's season bright by participating in Operation Christmas Child!
This initiative's signature shoeboxes, which are used to send children in need around the world a special present during the holidays, are available in Schilling Hall to any Wildcat that would like to help.
Campus clubs, groups of faculty, staff or students, or individuals are invited to take part in packing a shoebox with items like toys, school supplies and hygiene items for children. After each box is stuffed with goodies, they should be dropped off in front of the SGA office in the College Center no later than
Nov. 20 at noon.

Students enjoy a special Thanksgiving meal together on Thursday, Nov. 9 in the K-State Café. The turkey dinner - complete with all of the fixings - was designed to help the K-State Polytechnic family of faculty, staff and students connect, converse and show unity.

Social work students aim to raise homelessness awareness, gather warm clothing with fundraiser 'Keeping Salina Warm'
If you have a roof over your head every night, students in the social work degree option want you to understand what it is like for those that do not.
The students have created "Keeping Salina Warm," a simulation and fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 1 that aims to shine a light on the local homeless population while collecting cold weather necessities. From 5 p.m. to midnight in the Student Life Center, those that attend are given the opportunity to experience what it would be like to be without adequate shelter on a cold December night. Participants also are eligible for dinner, however, as part of the simulation, it will be handed out to them in a soup kitchen setting.
Children in attendance can decorate holiday cards that will be given to
DVACK, the
Ashby House and the Salina Rescue Mission, and everyone who comes is asked to donate a winter coat, which also will go to those three organizations.

Purple goes green: Kansas State Polytechnic adds renewable energy to campus
The energy-efficient additions to campus are outside of the Student Life Center. The building will see the benefit of the alternative energy production, while the campus now has the first pieces in place for its goal to become more energy efficient and increase its sustainable energy production.
"As I look at our campus and how to prepare it for the future while reflecting technology, adding renewable energy through solar and wind power seems a natural fit," said Verna Fitzsimmons, CEO and dean of Kansas State Polytechnic. "Faculty and staff can use the systems for education. Facilities can use the systems to monitor energy usage and integrate the findings into future energy projects. Students can witness the complex technology firsthand and use the systems to learn more about renewable energy systems, collect data, and analyze and draw conclusions. This idea fits perfectly with our programs and the polytechnic model of education."
Integrating the wind and solar technology into the hands-on education model of the campus was a key selling point, Fitzsimmons said. The technology provides multiple opportunities for collaboration across campus, including biannual safety inspections of the turbine via drone - one area of national recognition at Kansas State Polytechnic.

Kansas State Polytechnic welcomes new executive director of enrollment management and marketing
Kansas State Polytechnic has hired a new leader to transform prospective students into Wildcats.
Christopher Smith, former director of admissions for two DeVry University locations, joins Kansas State Polytechnic as the new executive director of enrollment management and marketing. Smith started his role at the beginning of October and is tasked with supervising the operations of both the admissions and communications and marketing offices. His primary focus is on increasing brand awareness and creating new recruiting strategies, with an overall objective of growing enrollment.
"We are proud to welcome Dr. Smith and his years of experience in student recruitment to the Polytechnic Campus," said Verna Fitzsimmons, dean and CEO of Kansas State Polytechnic. "His extensive knowledge of the consultative approach to enrollment, which centralizes the student experience, aligns perfectly with our campus's polytechnic approach to education. It will be exciting to watch Dr. Smith's fresh perspective and new ideas elevate our engagement with potential Wildcats."

Employee Tuition Assistance and Spouse/Dependent Grant
1. Employee Tuition Assistance
Award amount is for tuition only in a K-State course for up to 3 credit hours per term.
The maximum award amount will not exceed the value of 3 hours at the in-state Manhattan/Salina tuition rate (ie. campus fees, other institutional fees, etc. are the responsibility of the employee).

Spouse/Dependent Grants (Only REGULAR employees are eligible. If you are unsure if you are REGULAR or TERM, check your contract or with the HR office.)
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled full time in a degree terminating undergraduate program, the award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 7 undergraduate course credits, where full-time for an undergraduate is defined as at least 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term.
For Spouses that are enrolled part-time in a degree terminating undergraduate program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 undergraduate course credits, where part-time for an undergraduate is defined as less than 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour. )
Dependents that are enrolled less than full-time in an undergraduate program are not eligible for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant.
