Staying involved in the Bloomington/Normal area, and beyond.
Where do you fit... Beyond the Bricks?

Welcome... to the latest issue of
Beyond the Bricks!

Dear Christian Friends,

Did you watch the Emmy's last Sunday evening?  I didn't, but I'm sure there were some famous people who went home with an Emmy, and some very beautiful people who walked the red carpet.  These are the people we call "stars."

But I know people who are more like "stars" to me, such as the person who drives a senior neighbor to the doctor for Faith in Action.  Or the one who cares about our servicemen and women and brings in deodorant and beef jerky for Operation Santa.  Or the person who gives up part of a Saturday to build a bed for a kid who doesn't have one.  These are people I consider real "stars."

Look through this issue of Beyond the Bricks, and maybe you'll find a way to be a "star" in someone else's life!

Peace,
Jim

"Against All Odds:
The Fight for a Black Middle Class" with Bob Herbert
Movie

September 26th at 7:00 p.m.
Followed by a Panel Discussion
Presented by Normal First United Methodist Church
211 N. School St.
Normal, IL  61761

 Plot Summary:
A documentary about the extraordinary difficulty African-Americans have faced in their efforts to establish and maintain a middle class standard of living. Nearly 40 percent of all black children are poor. And the black middle class remains proportionally much smaller and far less healthy than the white middle class. With a compelling narrative, dramatic historical footage and a series of deeply personal interviews, Bob Herbert shows why this is still the case a half century after the heyday of the civil rights movement.
