Dylan and Logan Sexton, local brothers who are dealing with a rare syndrome-MED14L, joined the Irish football team for practice this week and led the team onto Shamrock Field on Friday evening for their big game against Pennsauken. Their dad Ryan is a 1998 graduate of CCHS. Thank you Dylan and Logan-you are an inspiration to the entire CCHS family!

From the Office of the Principal
This week marks the mid-point of our first academic quarter. Our teachers will be updating grades
on Tuesday, and I advise you to sit with your students to discuss their progress. This would be the time to review study strategies and preparation for academic work. We would consider any student who has a grade of 75 or below in a class to be "in danger of failing" for the quarter. This would give students the remaining four weeks in the quarter to make necessary adjustments for academic success. Please reach out to your student's teachers with any questions.
This week, students in grades 9-11 will be taking College Board assessments. Students in grade 9 will be taking the PSAT 8/9. This is a test designed for 9th graders as part of the College Board battery of tests. The results serve as an indicator of progress as students move to the PSAT. Students in grades 10-11 will take the PSAT. These tests are all taken
on Wednesday. There are no classes. Seniors do not report to school but are expected to use the time for college applications and visits.

Homecoming Dance
Homecoming Dance information will be distributed to students this upcoming week. Tickets will be $20 and must be purchased in advance.
A few reminders: as stated in the CCHS handbook: Guests not be in grammar/middle school or more than two years older than the CCHS student host but not older than twenty (20) at the time of the dance.
The Homecoming Dance is semi-formal. Appropriate attire for a semi-formal event at a Catholic school is required. The following guidelines should be followed:
Boys: Dress shirt, tie, dress pants, shoes (no sneakers), jacket (optional)
Girls: Knee length dress (or no more than two inches above knee). Avoid excess- excessively high slits, excessively plunging necklines, excessively short skirts.

We ask for your prayers for our Kairos team and the seniors who will be making the Kairos retreat on October 9-11th. We know the Spirit will grace these students with a powerful and meaningful faith filled experience.

Student/Family Vacations:
As we have stressed on numerous occasions since the beginning of the school year, daily attendance is an essential key to the successful academic and social development of all students. With that in mind, we continue to encourage parents and guardians from taking family vacations during the school year.
AM Student Dropoff:
The new process in place for dropping off students in the morning seems to be working quite well. The drop off lines seem to be working much more efficiently. By increasing the efficiency of the process we have created a safer environment for the students. This would not have been possible without your cooperation. Thank you

Important Note on Bus Transportation:
If you have a bus issue regarding a bus that is late or a no show please contact the bus company directly. This is the most efficient way to handle the situation. Bus companies can radio drivers about whereabouts or issues immediately. Most bus company numbers can be found on bus passes or letters sent out at the end of the summer.

Catholics Fight Racism: Annual Diocese of Camden Life & Justice Gathering
Saturday, November 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
St. Charles Borromeo Church,
This year's annual Diocese of Camden Life & Justice Gathering is designed to help Catholics throughout South Jersey reflect on how they can fight racism in their parishes, schools, homes, and hearts. Through a process of reflection, dialogue, prayer, and education, the day will begin to equip you to work for racial justice.
The program will be led by Michael Jordan Laskey, diocesan director of Life & Justice Ministries, and a team of leaders from Aquinas Center in Philadelphia, a multiethnic community center based at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.
Lunch and coffee will be provided.

PSAT and PSAT 8/9
CCHS students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will take the PSAT on October 11.2017. Students are reminded to arrive on time for school in full uniform, and to bring several pencils and a calculator.
Like other assessments in from the College Board, the PSAT 8/9 includes a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, and a Math Test. Many questions on the PSAT 8/9 focus on important, widely used words and phrases found in texts in many different subjects. Some questions ask you to figure out a word's meaning based on context.
The words are ones that you will probably encounter in college or in the workplace long after test day.
Like the PSAT 8/9 the PSAT/NMSQT also includes a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, and a Math Test. The
Writing and Language Test
focuses on command of evidence. It asks you to do things like analyze a series of sentences or paragraphs and decide if it makes sense. Other questions ask you to interpret graphics and to edit a part of the accompanying passage so that it clearly and accurately communicates the information in the graphics.

Mid-quarter Progress Reporting/ Deficiency Notices
Teachers will post grades on October 10, 2017 and notify the Guidance Department of any student with a grade of 75 or lower who is in danger of failing. Parents/guardians are reminded to check RenWeb after October 10th to see updated grades. The first quarter closes on November 10th. Teachers will be giving more tests, quizzes, and other assessments. This may provide the opportunity for students to improve their grades. Questions about particular classes should be addressed to the individual teacher who may be reached by email. Any parent who is having trouble accessing RenWeb should contact Anne Buroojy at [email protected].

a non-profit that provides mentoring and scholarships for students who have faced economic hardship and other adversity-including the incarceration of a parent or placement in the foster care system-is currently accepting applications from high-achieving, ninth grade students who meet our income requirements. If accepted into our program, the students attend one of Give Back's partner universities in New Jersey, where they have the opportunity to graduate in four years with little or no debt.
To begin the application process, current ninth graders are asked to complete an
inquiry form andattend one of the following mandatory information sessions this fall:

Proud Neighbors of Collingswood upcoming Architectural History Walking Tour. This is a docent-led exterior description about historic features of three Collingswood residential areas on Sunday, October 15 (Rain date: Sunday October 22.)
