MEET YOUR MEMBERS AT LARGE
JENNIFER ALLEN: My name is Jennifer Allen and I am the PTA K-2 Member at Large. I am a voice for parents of children in grades K-2. If you have any questions, comments or concerns you can email me and I can get answers or address your concerns confidentially.

I have 2 children at Discovery, Harrison (5th grade) and Maliyah (2nd grade). I have volunteered at the school for the past 5 years and have served on the PTA board for the past 2 years. I have worked full time as a nurse at Vanderbilt Children's hospital for 18 years. This year I made a career move to a school nurse at a Rutherford County Middle School. I am enjoying being home with my family in the evenings and on the weekends, but am sad to not be able to be as active during the day at Discovery. I miss working with all the wonderful staff at Discovery, but am looking forward to working with the wonderful parents. You can reach me at [email protected]

AMY ROEDER: She is the mother of Peyton who is in 4th grade in Mrs. Kaisers Class and Chloe who is in 3rd grade in Mrs Lloyds Class and both are at Discovery School. She grew up in the Nashville area when she was in elementary school but moved to multiple states like Texas, Virginia and Georgia for high school, college and dental school. She moved back to Murfreesboro in 2007. Amy is a pediatric dentist here in Murfreesboro at Dr. Amy Pediatric Dentistry. She is enjoying being apart of this community and especially Discovery School. Feel free to contact Amy for any concern you have for grades 3-6.

DISCOVERY SCHOOL LEGO LEAGUE

BEST Robotics
The 2017 BEST Robotics Game Day will be October 28th at Lipscomb University in Allen Arena. BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) is a robotics program for middle and high school students. The program has been around for 24 years and was started by two engineers at Texas instruments in an effort to get students excited about STEM subjects and careers. This will be Discovery School's 10th year to participate in the BEST Robotics, and we are "gearing" up for another championship year. Discovery's BEST team would love to have a record number of younger students come to Game Day and help cheer on our team this year. It is a great opportunity to expose students to all components of engineering and marketing.
COUNSELORS NEWS

THANK YOU for making the WatchDOGS Pizza Night a success. We are very grateful for all of the parents who volunteer so much time and effort at Discovery School. Your input makes such a huge impact; so again, thank you! For sign-up information please contact Mrs. Baltimore ([email protected])

Spring Production auditions will be October 13th from 3-5 in the gym. For more details, please contact Mrs. Kleppinger or Mrs. Baltimore. The show this year will be Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach, Jr".

October is Bullying Prevention Month. Ask your student what the definition of bullying is and talk about the difference between bullying and conflict. You may also want to ask them what are the rules against bullying. There are 4 of them that we abide by at Discovery School. Talk to them about what it means to be a "Defender".
