November Chamber Coffee

Hosted by

usd 465

On November 16th, USD 465 will host the Winfield Chamber Coffee at the Winfield Middle School (WMS) Library.  This time will highlight the partnership between USD 465 and Newell Rubbermaid in Winfield. With Rubbermaid's support WMS students formed a robotics club. These students will spend designated time working on various projects and will also participate in local and regional competitions.

A grant provided through the State of Kansas and Rubbermaid supports the equipment and activities of the Robotics club. As part of this ongoing partnership, the WMS Robotics club recently toured the Winfield Rubbermaid facility and conferred with employees.
USD 465 looks forward to highlighting this partnership along with discussion on expansion of other community business partnerships.

Winfield Chiropractic Relief & Wellness
Wednesday, November 15, 10:00 AM, 1913 E. 19th Ave.

Winfield Chiropractic was founded in 1981 at 1302 South Main.  In 2005 the office moved to a larger location at 1913 E. 19th Ave.  At the same time a name change was introduced and Winfield Chiropractic & Rehab was born in order to accommodate it's more integrative care style.  In 2017 Dr.'s Doug and Brad Swanson update their brand and with it introduced a new modern logo and name.  Winfield Chiropractic Relief and Wellness, now proudly serves our surrounding communities.  "We believe that how long you decide to benefit from care is entirely up to you. Have you heard that once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go for the rest of your life? Well, it's not true. Whether you want relief, stabilization, prevention or wellness, we're here to help you reach your goal. Our job is to offer you the best chiropractic care possible, and your job is to decide how much of it you want."

Three Hospitality Management properties earn Best Western® Hotels & Resorts' coveted M.K. Guertin Award

Three of Hospitality Management LLC's Best Western-branded properties have earned the hotel chain's coveted M.K. Guertin Award for 2017. Named in honor of the chain's founder, the awards went to the Best Western Plus Patterson Park Inn (Arkansas City, Kansas); Best Western Plus Norman (Norman, Oklahoma); and Best Western Blackwell Inn (Blackwell, Oklahoma). Only 39 hotels across North America were so honored by Best Western this year.

"This is the third consecutive M.K. "I am immensely proud of the team we have assembled at each hotel. It is their hard work and fierce commitment to customer satisfaction that earned these honors. I applaud every single team member for their loyalty to the brand and to our company."

In presenting the awards during Best Western's annual convention in Nashville this week, Best Western President and CEO David Kong said, "I am thrilled to recognize you and your staff for your dedication to providing the superior service our guests have come to expect from Best Western, and for representing our brand with great pride."

Hospitality Management operates three Best Western-branded hotels and four hotels overall in Kansas and Oklahoma. A fifth hotel - Best Western Plus Lawrence at Rock Chalk Park - is slated to open in summer 2018. The company's Best Western Plus Norman property was used as the backdrop for Best Western's 2018 national TV campaign, which premiers in February.

SC Again Ranked as Top Kansas School by 'Washington Monthly'

Winfield, Kan., Nov. 10, 2017 - For the second consecutive year, "Washington Monthly" magazine has recognized Southwestern College as a top ten value in higher education in its college rankings issue.  In the 2017 issue, the magazine ranks SC seventh in the Midwest Region as a "Best Bang for the Buck College."

According to "Washington Monthly," the "Best Bang for the Buck" list includes schools that help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. "Washington Monthly's" methodology for the rankings is rooted in a number of key areas including graduation rates, first-generation student ratios, graduate earnings, proportion of Pell Grant recipients, and net price of attendance.

In total, 364 institutions of higher education were ranked in the Midwest category. The seventh place ranking put Southwestern ahead of all other schools in Kansas.

"We are proud to be recognized by 'Washington Monthly' magazine again; this particular ranking is the one that is most directly tied to our mission as a college" says Southwestern College President Brad Andrews. "The dedication Southwestern College faculty and staff demonstrate in helping our students realize their potential results in an extremely valuable education."

Musical Theatre Ensemble and SC Singers to Present Free Concerts

The Southwestern College music and theatre departments will be presenting two different nights of contemporary commercial music, beatboxing, and musical theatre.

The Musical Theatre Ensemble and Broadway Builders will present "Broadway Backwards" on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m., in Richardson Performing Arts Center.

"The concert will feature songs that each soloist would usually never perform due to it being of the opposite gender, race, or character type," says Brian Winnie, director of choral activities and voice at Southwestern College.

SC Singers will present "Forward March" on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature both group numbers and soloists performing popular contemporary songs.

"This is always a wonderful night featuring the growth of all SC vocal students over the course of this semester, with powerful belting, beat-boxing, and tight harmony," Winnie says.
There is no admission charge for either show and the public is invited to attend.
