Volume:3   Issue: 6 October 8
Dear Friends,

At our most recent First Friday Mass I had the distinct pleasure of awarding our first set of You are a Wonder Awards.  As part of our Wonder theme for the year, the school community will recognize students and staff that embody the qualities of "Courage, Kindness, Friendship, and Character." Seven students and two staff members were honored for modeling the message of Christ's love through their selfless actions toward others.  The recipients were nominated by their teachers and colleagues.

Kamila, Elle, Lichel, and Tatiana were honored for their continued efforts to help our youngest students make the transition to school. These four students help to welcome our pre-k three students each morning. They provide the students a welcoming smile and a warm greeting so they can settle into the day at drop off.

Joe is one of our eighth grade students that rides the bus to school.  Most of our bus passengers are in middle school. There is one kindergarten student on the bus and you can imagine how scary that experience might be for the little guy. Joe takes it upon himself to make sure Gabriel is safe and happy on the bus as well as walk him to class in the morning and pick him up in the afternoon.

Rania and Isabella are students new to Assumption this year. They were selected by their teachers for their immediate positive impact on their classes. They were welcomed additions and made friends quickly and improve the children around them.

Mrs. Kozlowski and Mrs. DeFelice were overwhelmingly supported by their colleagues for their selfless and kind demeanor.  They are always willing to lend a hand and go above and beyond to help improve our school community.

Our school is full of kind souls and good hearts. These are just a few of our special people to highlight.  Each month we will highlight more of our wonderful students and staff.

Many Blessings,

Steven J. Santoli
Principal

Soup Drive for Homes for the Brave
PK3 Accepting Donations Every Monday  Until February

Mrs. Riehl, Mrs. Loreng, and the PK3 class will once again collect canned soup for Homes for the Brave. Every Monday, until the Super Bowl, students and staff are asked to donate canned soup. As a thank you, Mr. Santoli will allow anybody that donates to wear their favorite football (or any sport) jersey over their uniform.

Homes for the Brave provides emergency shelter for homeless veterans as well as counseling, housing, and career guidance.

Seventh Grade Takes the Pink Pledge
Support the Norma Pfriem Breast Center

The seventh grade is selling pink gym shirts to support the Pink Pledge for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. The proceeds from the sale of these shirts will support the mission of Norma Pfriem.

Mr. Santoli has given permission for students to wear these shirts all year long on gym and spirit days. Order yours today!

Pink Pledge is a month long, community wide, awareness and fundraising campaign to benefit the  Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Funds raised through Pink Pledge enable the Center to continue to provide medical excellence and compassionate care to ALL women, regardless of their ability to pay.

Norma Pfriem Breast Center was the first freestanding community breast center in Connecticut to offer one-stop coordination of care, patient navigation and rapid diagnosis.  Norma Pfriem Breast Center is one of only 500 centers nationwide accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.

Pink Pledge is what you make it. There are many ways to participate. Through your support and participation, no matter how big or small, you can make a difference in someone's life, even your own.

T-shirt orders are due Wednesday, so don't delay!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

It is our goal to have all students arrive and leave school in a safe and orderly fashion.  This is impossible without you strictly following these simple procedures.  The time you might save by cutting corners is not worth the potential of hurting someone.

Morning Drop-Off
  • The safest and quickest method of drop off is to pull in front of the school and pull forward as far as possible up to the flag pole.  When your car is parallel to the curb, allow your children to leave on the curbside of the car and walk behind the cones to the main door.
  • If you choose to park and help your child carry a large project or other materials, park inside the coned area and cross at the painted crosswalk to the main door.
  • Kindergarten and PK parents should park on the far side of the cones and walk their children into the flagpole doors and to the classrooms.
Afternoon Pick-Up

ALL CARS MUST PARK INSIDE THE CONED AREA
  • Drive forward to the basketball hoop and turn left in front of the school.  Drive to the furthest available row and pull all the way up to the car in front of you facing the church.
  • If you arrive after 3:00 PM, pull forward to the basketball hoop and form a neat straight line to the left and facing the school.
  • Exit your vehicle and walk to the grass area. Your children will be lined up on the sidewalk with their teachers. Make contact with the teacher to indicate you are taking your child. walk your child back to your car and wait for the cones to be lifted to exit the parking lot safely.
NO CONES SHOULD BE MOVED OR CARS MOVING WHILE STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE WALKING IN THE LOT.

When everyone follows the procedure our entire dismissal process takes no more than 15 minutes. If you have extreme circumstances and need to return to work or you are physically unable to walk to pick up your child, notify the main office and accommodations will be made for you.
