Fall Mission

We have two mission teams going this weekend to areas affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our student ministry team is headed to Houston. Our adult Disaster Relief Team is making their second trip to the coast. Please keep these teams in your prayers as they go about their valuable work.

Reminder... The South District Charge Conference will convene on Sunday, November 12, at 6 pm at the Salado United Methodist Church. All are invited. Our church leaders are encouraged to attend. This Charge Conference will be in the form of a worship service and churches will be asked to share their W.I.G. - Wildly Important Goal(s).

Veterans Sunday...Honoring all who served

This week we have a guest preacher for all three worship services. We welcome Rev. Brad Brittain, District Superintendent (DS) for the South District of the Central Texas Conference. Rev. Brittain

Scripture:  Matthew 14:13-21

This is Veterans Sunday. Services will include a special tribute to honor and recognize all of our armed services members, past and present, for their faithful service to our country. We invite all veterans and service members to come to worship in uniform.

Our Kids of the Kingdom Bells will be providing special music in the sanctuary services.

Please join us in worship this Sunday at  8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (FLC), or 11 am (Sanctuary).

Holiday Extravaganza

First Church Crafters annual holiday craft sale will be on Sunday, November 12
This  Holiday Extravaganza  will be held from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm at the church gazebo. From Christmas decorations to gorgeous jewelry, we know that you will find the perfect gift for that special someone! Since our creations are handmade and hand crafted from recycled and re-purposed  items, we believe that you will definitely find unique and exquisite gifts for all. As always, proceeds from the sale will go to missions, so please take a few minutes and browse our treasures on November 12. We know that you won't be disappointed.
Angel Tree

Want to be a Christmas Angel? "Adopt" a foster child on Sunday, November 12. 
Each year at this time, the Williamson County Child Welfare Board asks for help to purchase gifts for the children in foster care in Williamson County. The First Church Outreach Ministry is sponsoring this program for our church. This year we can help out by purchasing gifts for up to 120 children. Click for more information...
Flagpole Dedication

Dedication of new campus flagpole
Our church has been provided a new flagpole. It was installed in the area near the Garden of the Saints Columbarium. We will gather there immediately after the 11 am service this Sunday to dedicate the flagpole in memory of Larry Reynolds. The flag ceremony will be led by our Military and First Responders Network and our Boy Scouts. We hope you will join us.
How to bless a college student...
Church Mouse Gift Cards

The Church Mouse program requests your help.
It's time for finals for our college students and we would like to send them each a note and a gift card to wish them good luck!  Buy a $10 gift card to Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Dominos, or any place a college student would like. We will collect them the entire month of November, with the final donation date being Sunday, November 26 . Please bring them to the youth office or mail them to the church (designate the Church Mouse Program) to 1004 N. Mays Street, Round Rock, TX 78664. Thank you for supporting our college students!

J-Team
J-Team is coming this Sunday!
Calling all 3rd to 5th graders:  Please join us  November 12 from 2 - 4 pm  for our November 
J - Team  event! We will be painting Christmas ornaments at Ceramic Lodge! Paint one ornament for your family tree and a second for a Christmas gift for someone you love! The cost is $10. A devotional and snack are included.

Student Ministry
December 1: Deadline for 
Confirmation Registration 
Each spring students who go through Confirmation classes learn about the United Methodist Church, key Biblical principles, and what it means to be a Christian. Through the Confirmation journey, students learn what it means to be responsible for their own faith and ultimately claim their faith as their own.

Writer's Group
First Writers' Group meeting is next week! 
New Writers' Group meets on  Wednesday, November 15 at 6:00 pm in Bldg. 5-126
If you are an aspiring writer or blogger, join us! Using  The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron to guide and inspire us, we are planning on meeting twice monthly. We'll discuss the basic principles and tools, and have fun with some writing exercises.

JOY Fellowship Thanksgiving Celebration 
Thursday, November 16 at 11:30 am in Adkins Bldg. 5-127
Join us for a potluck dinner! We'll provide turkey and all the fixings along with green beans and squash. When you register, you select a vegetable, salad or dessert or a $5 donation. We'll have a short program with Richard Glasco who produced the movie A Man Called Jon, and then we'll view the movie. Caring Angels Stockings
Caring Angels Stockings
Christmas is a time of spreading the joy of the season with others. Our Caring Angel Ministry invites you to join in the fun. The Stocking Tree will be up in the foyers of the Sanctuary and Family Life Center on Sundays, November 19 and 26. Take one or more stockings from the tree with the list of goodies to provide that are appropriate for area senior residents and centers. Bring the filled stockings back to the Sanctuary or FLC foyers, or the church office by Sunday, December 3. We will deliver 250 stockings to The Court and The Legacy this year. Grief Support
New Grief Support Group
Losing a loved one is never easy. Coping with grief and loss is arguably one of the hardest things you will ever have to endure in life. First Church will be offering a 6-8 week curriculum based Grief Support Group this fall/winter. This group is designed to be a place of support through sharing, learning and caring. Caregiver Survey
Caring for an Aging Parent or Loved One? Need Help? New Survey Available for You!
First Church is seeking to meet the needs of the so called Sandwich Generation and others who are responsible for their aging parents and loved ones, and at the same time are responsible for children of their own, their work and other responsibilities. If this describes you, you are invited to take this survey. The survey will help us to better serve your needs. If you have questions or additional ideas contact Wanell Soslow at wanell@fumc-rr.org.

Thanksgiving Bags Project

Reminder...Bring your filled bags back to church this Sunday!
Every year our church feeds nearly 300 families Thanksgiving in the greater Round Rock area through our Thanksgiving Bag Ministry. This year we will feed 200+ families in eight partnering schools, 100 families in the Houston area, and families in our local National Guard. If you picked up a bag, please fill the bags with items on list and return to the church by  November 12 !  Click here for all the details...
Sager Brown Mission

Want to know more about the UMCOR Sager Brown Mission Trip 2018?
Eleanor Johnson, Team Leader for the UMCOR Sager Brown Mission Trip 2018, will be at a table outside Payne Cottage/Twin Oaks Cafe from 9 - 11 am Sundays, November 5 and 12 to answer questions and provide printed information about the UMCOR - Sager Brown Mission Trip, March 18-23, 2018, in Baldwin, Louisiana.   • Student Ministry is staffing the Twin Oaks Cafe in October.
  • Plastic Bag Recycling: Donate your plastic bags for use at the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Leave them in the white barrel in Payne Cottage. They are picked up weekly.
  • Drive-A-Senior Needs More Drivers: Visit  their website, or call 512-310-1060 to learn more about this community service to our elderly neighbors.
  • Round Rock Area Serving Center:  Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs! New volunteer orientation is on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 4 pm at 1099 E. Main St., 2nd floor conference room.  Call 512-244-2431.

Footprints Children's Grief Ministry
Footprints Children's Grief Ministry 
needs your help! 
We offer 10 week workshops to children in the community who have suffered loss of a loved one through divorce or death. The workshops are offered to the children free of charge to their families, so we need your help. You can sponsor a child (or children) for $50 each ($5/week for 10 weeks). Sign up to sponsor and get more information on the Footprints website. Footprints Children's Grief Ministry originated at First Church and is now a tax-exempt 501c3 organization.
