This morning's worship will be centered on stories from the book Ordinary Extraordinary African American Women: The Elders, and how telling our life stories can be an act of tremendous courage. 
Special Reading and Book Signing on October 8
Join us in the Meeting Room this Sunday after the second service for a reading from  Stephana I. Colbert's   Ordinary Extraordinary African American Women: the Elders, which tells the story of 11 African-American women who are extraordinary in the way they lived their everyday lives. UU member Gladys DeVane is one of the women featured. A reception and panel discussion will follow the short reading.
This Week in Religious Education: Courage
Children of all ages will attend Vacation Religious Education upstairs in the Library, where Olivia and Peter Dorfman will share about the International Outreach Task Force's trip to Kenya. We will also explore similarities and differences between children's experiences of life in Kenya and life in Southern Indiana. During second service, our 6th-8th graders will meet for fellowship and Harry Potter games. High School Youth are gathering at 12:30 p.m. for pizza. They will provide technology help to anyone in the church community who needs it between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. in  Room 210.
Tech Help Available Sunday, October 8th
Come to Room 210 between  1 and 2:30pm. Bring your troublesome or mysterious device along. Our youth are happy to help you with your technological puzzles.
This Sunday--Travel in Time Via a UU History Class!
Please join us as we travel through time and meet our historical UU leaders. We will discuss the questions and challenges they faced in bringing us to where we are today.  Everyone is welcome.  Sunday, October 8 2:00 - 4:00 pm .  Stuart Yoak, a member of our congregation, will be the instructor.
Owning Your Religious Past Postponed
We are postponing the Adult Religious Education class "Owning Your Religious Past" that was to have started on October 11. We will let you know when it is rescheduled.
Your Pledge Dollars at Work :   UU Youth Travels
Youth traveled last weekend to learn and celebrate with UU youth from around the region. Our Middle Schoolers enjoyed a camp in Kentucky and High Schoolers attended a Youth Revival in the Chicago area.
Just Peace Task Force's "Nuclear Dangers" Talk on October 11
The Just Peace Task Force asks you to attend our major event, a talk on "Nuclear Dangers" by Geoff Wilson of the Ploughshares Fund in Washington, DC.  It is on  Wednesday, October 11th at 7 p.m.  in the Meeting Room at UUCB.  A strong turnout will increase the impact of the event.  Please bring a friend. A Night at the Tivoli Celebrating LGBT History Month Oct. 11
Join Spencer Pride is celebrating LGBT History Month with a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre in Spencer.

Sunday, October 15th at 2:00 PM,  First United Methodist 
Enjoy an afternoon of love songs by Grammy winner Sylvia McNair. UUs Ray Fellman and Scott Hogsed  will also  perform!  Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children and students and will be available between services in the Commons on October 8th and 15th and at the Sunrise Box Office downtown. Proceeds support the Shalom Community Center.
