October Newsletter
We are nearing the end of the 1st quarter! Be sure to read about what we have been doing at RMDS, check out our upcoming events, look at our educational corners to see what the kids are learning, get involved with FSSO and much more!
FROM AMY NOVOTNY: our Director
Dear RMDS families and Guardians,

I know we are all surprised how fast September has flown by! With October comes beautiful fall colors and cool weather. It also means that the end of first quarter is just around the corner. We at RMDS are pleased to see our students easily adjusting to their new routines, classroom schedules and teachers.

There is plenty of evidence that shows positive communication between parents and teachers—are a necessary component that can improve student academic performance. Parent and teacher conferences are just one of the many wonderful opportunities for both parents and teachers to openly communicate. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for the 19 th of October, from 1pm to 6:30pm. It is a chance for parents to ask questions about their child’s progress. It is also a time for parents and the teachers to work together as a team to discuss ways both parties can help students to succeed.

Additionally, our FSSO is hosting 5K run and Trunk –n – Treat on 29 th of October. It definitely will be a fun filled event, and we hope to see all of you there.

Thank you for your continued support.

RMDSly yours,
Amy J Novotny
Director
Note to all Middle and High School parents:
The staff at Rocky Mountain Deaf School would like to inform RMDS families that we have a new policy regarding middle school and high school students that have voiced their desire to stay after school.

Rocky Mountain Deaf School does not offer after school care to middle and high school aged students; as is the standard in most middle schools and high schools throughout each school district in the state of Colorado. RMDS families should be aware that no supervision will be provided to middle and high school students that remain in the building after students have been released for the day. However, students that choose to stay after school are welcome to remain in an unsupervised and designated area while: waiting to be picked up, complete homework, or while waiting to attend an RMDS sporting event.

Please note that families are responsible for picking up and/or arranging for pick-up of their middle and high school aged students. The RMDS staff would like to respectfully emphasize that families are responsible for communicating with transportation and transport drivers.

Should a student express the need for after school tutoring services, please feel free to contact, Stephanie Carson. Stephanie Carson may be reached via text (303-660-4555) or via video phone (720-961-9211).

As always, the safety of students is our number one priority at RMDS, and our desire to create a family atmosphere through respectful open communication will continue. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.

ASL Family Retreat
RMDS' first annual ASL Retreat was an AMAZING success!!

RMDS' goal for the Family ASL Retreat Weekend is to provide a quality experience where our families can connect outside of the school environment by offering a safe and accepting atmosphere where families learn from each other and have the opportunity to use ASL all weekend.

During this year's retreat the families had the opportunity to attend several of our parent workshops, participate in team building activities and share meals together. The children had a great time interacting with other children by participating in camp activities and games. Each person there: mom, dad, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandma and grandpa all had a great and fun weekend.

We are already planning and looking forward to next year's retreat weekend! Look for the date soon! We hope all our RMDS families can join us!!
