- 12:30pm: All are Invited: Rededication of Danny's Fountain at Marlborough and Hampton. This drinking fountain was originally donated by crossing guard Danny McCue and has been restored through efforts by his mother, Jeanne McCue, and the Village, as well as a number of contractors who donated their services to replace the fountain at that intersection. A celebration in his memory will take place at 12:30pm on Sun., Oct. 8 - more info here.

- WFB Library Event 6:30-8:00pm Music of the West African Kora (Harp) By Musician Sean Gaskell. Concert features traditional songs on the 21 stringed West African Kora. The Kora is native to the Mande peoples who live within the countries of Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. The music is traditionally played by oral and musical historians known as Griots (Gree-ohs). The Kora is a melodic and seemingly peaceful instrument, which is somewhat contrary to its musical repertoire. Many songs tell ancient stories of war and hardship, while others praise people of high political status and those who helped expand the Mande Empire. While the Kora is only 300 years old, some commonly played songs can be traced back 800 years to the Mande empires' founding. Gaskell has studied extensively under the instruction of Malamini Jobarteh and Moriba Kuyateh of Brikama, The Gambia, and Kane Mathis of Brooklyn, NY. - 55+ Better: Free Blood Pressure Clinic 1:30 at The Whitefish Bay Community Center
- WFB Library: How to Support Pollinators by Master Gardener Jennifer Lazewski: 6:30-7:30pm. Sponsored by the Whitefish Bay Garden Club and the Whitefish Bay Public Library. Jennifer Lazewski is a Southeast Wisconsin Master Gardener Volunteer working with UW-Extension and the founder of its Pollinator Group. An experienced butterfly and hummingbird gardener who last year hosted a rare Anna's hummingbird, she is now focusing her efforts on the many native bees that increasingly visit her small, urban Wauwatosa yard. After learning about the crucial role that bees play in the local ecosystem and local food movement, she is dedicated to bringing university-based research on bees and other pollinators to the community.

The Pumpkins are Coming!....
The Great Pumpkin Festival sponsored by the Civic Foundation: Free Festival at Schoolhouse Park, Wed., Oct. 25 through Sun., Oct. 29
- The Pumpkin Festival will be held once gain at Old Schoolhouse Park, located directly across from the WFB Public Library, 5420 N. Marlborough Drive.
- Enter the Pumpkin patch, pick out a pumpkin and bring it into our carving tent! Prepare, design and carve your pumpkin at this family friendly event.
- We provide the FREE pumpkins, carving tools, candles, and table space. Design a jack-o-lantern, and it will be lit and on display every night.
- Each night will feature live local music and delicious food from Pandl's Whitefish Bay Inn.

Leaf Pickup Information: For now residents should bag or containerize leaves. Curbside pickup begins Mon., Oct. 16. Until then, some street sweeping of leaves will occur, beginning in the area between Lake Dr and Oakland first, then continuing with east-west streets where storm catch basins are.
Pavement Mill and Overlay Project Upcoming
Several streets in the Village are included in this year's annual pavement mill and overlay project. This work will consist of pavement grinding, spot curb and gutter and base pavement repairs, and then resurfacing with asphalt. The work is expected to be completed in October The adjacent residents have been previously notified. Please drive carefully around this and all construction zones.
Cramer Street Storm Sewer Improvement Project (Glendale Avenue to Wilshire Road)
To address surface flooding due to heavy rain events, the Village is proceeding on this project to add additional storm sewer system capacity. Some needed sanitary and water utility work is taking place as well, along with the replacement of lead water services. This project is expected to be completed in early November.
Chipping of Woody Material: Acceptable woody chipping materials are tree branches and large woody shrubs that are to be placed on the parkway. This service continues in an every other week rotation.
Recycling Information
Trash & Recycling Collection Project: Website Information located HERE. Status Update as of September 12, 2017: The Village Board voted to authorize the implementation of a Village provided cart program to be placed near the curb or alley edge by the resident utilizing the automated collection process effective May 7, 2018 and directed village staff to develop an implementation plan that includes an exception process and to set the implementation date for the recycling program changes as of May 7, 2018.

CHANGES TO DRUG DROP OFF AT POLICE AND DRUG TAKE BACK DAY
On October 12, 2017 the Police Department will be temporarily relocating to the DPW building at 155 W. Fairmount Ave. We believe we'll be out of the Marlborough address for 10 - 12 months. Due to the space limitations in the service lobby at DPW and secure storage issues we will temporarily stop taking citizen's medication. Once we are back in our original building we will again take your medication. We will have at least 2 specific drug take back days while we are out of the Marlborough location. The Department of Justice and the DEA will work with us to take unused medications.
There are two dates in the near future that you need to know:

Monday, October 9, 2017 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, is the last day we will accept drugs at the police department on Marlborough.
As usual, we do not take sharps, syringes or any type of needle. We do not take oral or nasal inhalers. Have all of your medication out of the bottle or packaging material and have the loose pills in a clear plastic bag.
- Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, we will have a special drug take back day at the DPW. Please enter from Lydell. We will have the next drug take back day sometime in the spring of 2018.
Advisory: Please remember to remove the keys and FOB from your vehicle and lock your doors.
The North Shore communities including Whitefish Bay have seen a recent increase in motor vehicle thefts and thefts of items from motor vehicles. Please remember to remove the keys and FOB from your vehicle when parked and lock your car doors. Leaving exterior house lights on at night can also help prevent unwanted people from coming onto your property at night.

October 1-7 is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. However, mental illness affects everyone directly or indirectly through family, friends or coworkers. One in five adults experiences a mental illness in any given year. Those problems can contribute to onset of more serious long-term conditions such as major depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Approximately one-half of chronic mental illness begins by the age of 14. Unfortunately, long delays-sometimes decades-often occur between the time symptoms first appear and when people get help. Despite mental illnesses' reach and prevalence, stigma and misunderstanding are also, unfortunately, widespread.
Since 1990, when Congress officially established the first full week of October as MIAW, advocates have worked together to sponsor activities, large or small, to educate the public about mental illness. This year the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is promoting the theme "Into Mental Health: Inspired, Informed, Involved" during MIAW. The campaign focuses on the power of starting inspiring conversations, getting informed to know the right thing to say and encouraging people to proudly proclaim that they are #IntoMentalHealth!

Green Tree Bridge to Close: Notice of Public Meeting Wed., Oct. 18, 5pm
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is currently developing plans to reconstruct the Green Tree Road Road bridge over I-43 in 2018. To successfully deliver this project, a full closure of the bridge will be necessary. In addition to the bridge closure, the on-ramp from Good Hope Road to southbound I-43 will be closed for part of this project, as it will also be reconstructed.Posted detour information will be in place for the closure.
WisDOT is hosting a public involvement meeting (PIM) to provide information about the construction schedule, alternate routes and closures and planned construction activities.
The Public Involvement Meeting is planned for Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 5:00-7:00p.m. in the cafeteria at Nicolet High School, 6701 N Jean Nicolet Road, Glendale. A brief presentation reviewing the project plans will begin at 6:00 p.m. Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide project information before and after the presentation.
