Debby Kuhn, Client of the Month
"Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness."
-Joseph H. Pilates
We met some wonderful people at a few events that we were at in September from the Jenkintown Arts Festival to the event "A Natural Cause" at the Silverman Gallery.  We welcome you to our newsletter.

Fall is here and we all need to get busy to get our health and wellness in order with Pilates.  Check out our class schedule below and our new October special offer.

Debby Kuhn with Greg Elwell
Client of the Month
Debby Kuhn came to
June Hines Pilates in 2007 and has been and avid and dedicated student of the Pilates method.  She started Pilates with Jennifer Cybulski in 2005 and found June Hines Pilates in 2007.  When Debby moved into Philadelphia she continued her study with JHP primarily studying with Greg Elwell and also started training with Amy Berger of Star Pilates.

What brought you to Pilates?

I've had a hate-hate relationship with exercise for my whole life.  I joined gyms, went for a month and stopped, over and over again.  I came upon Pilates 12 years ago by chance, when I walked past a small studio and saw a Reformer.  I was intrigued by the  mechanics of the machine, and how it moved.  I scheduled a lesson with the instructor, "just to try it out", and was hooked immediately.  I wasn't one of the lucky people who have an intuitive response to the work, but I loved the mental exercise (and still do) of figuring out which muscles to recruit to do it properly.

How has Pilates helped you?

Over the years, Pilates has helped in ways I expected, and in surprising ways I didn't.  My posture is better.  I can take long walks without the hip pain I had for 25 years, because I've learned how to walk properly and how to use my core to support my body.  I can tell when I'm not balanced evenly on both legs and feet, and can correct that, so that I don't have back pain.  I'm currently recovering from a major shoulder injury, and the improvements in movement,  range of motion, and strength I now have in my injured shoulder and arm are from the Pilates work, and because my instructor, Greg, has been so creative and thoughtful about how to accommodate my current limitations.

The surprising ways Pilates has helped:  I've met wonderful people, both clients and instructors.  I've developed a new respect for the things my body can do, and the strength I have developed has given me confidence.
