Actions for Palestine will be showing part 1 of a film entitled, al-Nakba, that describes the period before the creation of the state of Israel on the lands of Historic Palestine. Learn about the British practices of collective punishment, the camps they put Palestinians in, and the racism that undergirds and defines this entire colonial enterprise.
On November 16, 2017, join in resisting 100 years of the Zionist Settler Colonialism of Palestine. We will be critically addressing this shameful and ongoing stage of history with a film screening and a talk by Yves Engler.
November 2, 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Balfour Declaration. With this declaration, the British government authorized the establishment of a Zionist settler colonial project in Palestine. Promising their imperial support of a Jewish national home on Palestinian land was rooted in an arrogant colonial attitude towards Arabs and antisemitic notions about the "global power of the Jews."
The Balfour Declaration was a classic European colonial document formulated with a total disregard for the political rights and sovereignty of the Palestinians. As described by Palestinian American Professor and historian, Rashid Khalidi, it "marked the beginning of a century-long colonial war in Palestine, supported by an array of outside powers which continues to this day." One of these outside powers was Canada.
This event will focus on how the ominous Declaration came into existence, the ongoing Nakba and the displacement and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians through the lens of 100 years since Balfour, and Canada's contribution, as a settler colonial country, to the Zionist project. With this event we say a defiant 'No' to Balfour 100! Join us and show that you, too, are part of the global resistance to the continuing settler colonialism of Palestine.

Join us on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29th to hear from Professor Michael Lynk, UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine.
Michael Lynk is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Western University, in London, Ontario. He joined the Faculty in 1999, and has taught courses in labour, human rights, disability,
constitutional and administrative law. One of the books Professor Lynk has co-edited is International Law and the Middle East Conflict (Routledge, 2011) with Susan Akram, Michael Dumper and Iain Scobbie.
In March 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council appointed Professor Lynk as the 7th Special Rapporteur for the human rights situation in the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967. He recently issued his second report as Special Rapporteur to the United Nations General Assembly.
The annual James Graff Memorial Lecture was established in beloved memory of University of Toronto philosophy professor, husband, father, and tireless peace advocate. Dr. James Graff founded of NECEF, Canada's oldest Middle East peace education NGO. In October 2005, Jim was still teaching as well as actively working for peace before he died later that month.
