Red Cross volunteers touch lives every day.
They are as diverse as the people receiving Red Cross
services. It takes all kinds of people to make this organization work - different ages, different backgrounds and different skills.  There is a variety of things to do, and you can navigate your own volunteer path.  Become a Red Cross volunteer and help people who are facing an emergency.  You may find your own life changed in the process.

Camp Curtin Preschool Seeks Volunteer Teacher's Aides.   Camp Curtin Preschool (CCP) is a high-quality educational program of Camp Curtin Community Neighbors United, an unincorporated neighborhood organization.  It is also a ministry of the Camp Curtin Mitchell Memorial United Methodist Church (CCMMUMC) and is supported by the nonprofit Covenant Community Corporation.  CCP is housed in the CCMMUMC located at 2221 N. 6 th Street, Harrisburg, and is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and operates on the same schedule as Harrisburg School District schools.  The Board of Directors is  seeking volunteer assistants to support the preschool teacher .  Volunteer commitment needs to be a regular weekly commitment of at least one session per week; more would be welcomed!  Adults applying for or holding an unpaid position as a volunteer with program, activity or service responsible  for the child's welfare or having direct volunteer contact with children will need to have a background clearance.  If you wish to volunteer, please contact Rich Stokes, CCP Board member, at 717-580-7364 or  [email protected].
Downtown Daily Bread
needs your help.  In response to an emergency need for shelter in Harrisburg we will open an overnight, emergency shelter for men from December 1, 2017-March 31, 2018. There will be 30 beds available for homeless men who would otherwise be unsheltered through the coming winter. We currently provide lunch, a drop-in-center, and other services for the homeless, but because of the short turn-around time, Downtown Daily Bread is seeking help to fund the cost of running this overnight shelter, which will be staffed by professionals and volunteers. Our Girls Need You!!  Girls on the Run organization inspires girls to activate their limitless potential to pursue their dreams through running.  As a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run, you can unleash the  strength, bravery, and limitless potential of girls right here in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and Lebanon county.  There are over 700 girls waiting to participate in Girls on the Run this Fall across all four counties. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) is seeking your help to plan and host the 12th Annual  Vision of Hope Gala. The Gala will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Hershey Lodge from 6-11 PM.  Funds raised from this event support child sexual abuse prevention and intervention programs. If you are an enthusiastic, dedicated and well-connected individual and can spare a few hours a month from October to April to help keep kids safe, we would love to have your help. Perhaps Today Ministries  is looking for volunteers to assist in a grass roots initiative being planned for 2018 to combat sex-trafficking, pornography, addiction and nefarious phone apps (used to lure our young people). We are looking for committee chairs and committee members. This project is in its beginning stages and in need of well-connected and passionate individuals who have a desire to bring change in any or all of these areas. A symposium is planned to target educating the community on each of these subjects, instructing best practices in assisting affected individuals and personal safety while doing so. The Salvation Army Programs Need Volunteers!
We are looking for caring members of our community who want to be involved in helping to meet basic needs. Each month, we serve 100 households, made up of over 300 individuals in our community, from our food pantry, providing shelf-stable and fresh foods.   We can use all the help that we can get, including stocking/shelving, cleaning and sanitizing, assisting clients with their food choices, and administrative tasks like labeling, filing and recording data.  We also need drivers for our weekly driving routes for picking up food donations.  Whether you would like to be an occasional helper or work towards a leadership role in our growing Food Pantry, we have a place for you!
Our most urgent needs right now are: 
THE CHOICE SHOPPING FOOD PANTRY allows clients to shop for and choose their own food from our food pantry.  
BREAKFAST PROGRAM INFORMATION: The only free hot breakfast in Harrisburg is served 7am-8am every weekday morning, excluding holidays.  
COSTCO FOOD DELIVERY: Costco in Harrisburg has generously chosen The Salvation Army Harrisburg as a recipient of their "leftover" food. Every Monday and Wednesday, we pick up a van load of food that needs to be unloaded from the van and brought inside, then sorted and organized.

It's time to start thinking about Holiday Giving at the YWCA!
Every year, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg partners with local individuals and organizations to support hundreds of families in need during the holidays.  Last year, our community sponsors helped us brighten the holidays for more than 500 families and we are hoping to hold another successful Holiday Giving program!  If you or your organization would like to sponsor an individual(s) or a family(ies) this year, please download the 2017 Holiday Giving form and submit it to Tiffanie Keck by Friday, November 3rd at  [email protected].

P.R.O.B.E. seeks additional board members.  P.R.O.B.E. is an acronym for Potential Re-entry Opportunities in Business & Education. Need Help with Marketing your Non-Profit?
The Allegra Harrisburg FootPRINT Fund will help Harrisburg area nonprofit organizations "leave a footprint" in the community by awarding marketing and print services for promotional and informational materials. The FootPRINT Fund was created to provide a means of helping local organizations receive assistance in areas that may not be addressed by other funding sources. Some of the services offered are: Marketing Consultation; Multi-Channel Marketing, (Mail, Online, and Email); Digital Marketing Services; Website Design or Redesign; Direct Mail; Customer or client surveys; Graphic design in conjunction with a marketing project and support of existing but underfunded promotional projects.  Applicants must apply by Oct. 31 and those that qualify are eligible to receive an in-kind donation of up to $2,500 each in 2018. To be considered for a FootPRINT Fund award, nonprofit groups, associations and charitable organizations must have a main office or branch in Harrisburg. Award recipients are selected by a review panel based on how the services will be used to further the organization's goals including service expansion, program enhancement and maximization of existing resources, as well as the organization's innovation and resourcefulness. Applicants may be awarded services in the value of the amount needed to cover an entire project or in a partial amount, depending on the number of worthy applications received and the value of services requested.  Projects for approval may commence in November. Collections for Hurricane Victims
Orrstown Bank continues to collect needed donations for the hurricane relief efforts.  Last week several employees traveled to Houston with a full 53 foot tractor trailer load containing more than 140,000 bottles of water, 10,000 plus boxes of diapers, and other needed items.  They already have a second truck load about half full and that delivery will be made to south west Florida.  If you would like to help out, visit www.orrstown.com for more information.  Donations are accepted at all Orrstown Bank locations.

PCD Presents Wine & Stein
Join us at The Vineyard & Brewery of Hershey for an Oktoberfest celebration on Thursday, October 12, 2017! The 4th Annual HYP 5 Miler for 5 Charities will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017. It will kick off on City Island and is fun for the whole family! All ages, dog, and stroller friendly. Go "Over the Edge" to Raise Funds for Kids!
Over The Edge is a NEW event this year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region. We invite the community to make a BIG difference with Vibra Healthcare this year by supporting Over The Edge! Participants (Edgers) who raise $1,000 will rappel down Market Square Plaza, which is 18 floors, down onto 2nd Street on  October 13th. October is LGBT History Month! This is a great opportunity to learn about and share the rich and vibrant history of our movement locally.  Our 4th Annual  History Comes Out exhibit will be up at Dickinson College from Oct. 18 to Nov. 30, and Dickinson will host a special History Comes Out reception on Oct. 29 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.   This year's reception will include behind-the-scenes tours of the Archives, a hands-on display of additional artifacts, and screenings of oral history interviews. HYP presents the Charity Date Auction!  
Join us for a night of Hollywood Glamour with Harrisburg Young Professionals featuring the 9th Annual Date Auction.  Each year, 10 Bachelors and 10 Bachelorettes go on the auction block with the greatest first date spots that Harrisburg has to offer while making an impact on education in the city. The 9th Annual Date Auction will take place at Level 2 in downtown Harrisburg on Friday, November 3rd. Doors open at 6pm with the live auction starting at 7:30pm. Junior Achievement of South Central PA is holding a Charity Bowling Event on November 10th from 5:30-8:00 pm at ABC East Lanes. Join us at Hersheypark Stadium on Sunday, November 19th for the Girls on the Run Capital Area Fall 5K. Pre-race activities begin at 8:00 AM with the 5K beginning at 9:30 AM. For twelve years the Highmark Caring Place, a center for grieving children and their families, has benefited from the annual Radisson Hotel Harrisburg Parade of Trees, now entering its 22nd year.
