Type 2 Diabetes: Taking a Holistic Approach
According to the latest numbers from the CDC, the overall obesity prevalence in the US is 36% amongst adults and 17% in youth. If you include those who are overweight, for adults the prevalence is 70.7%. These numbers are quite staggering since obesity related conditions include heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancers and type 2 diabetes.

Did you know that turmeric and curcumin (which is found in turmeric) have significant benefits in diabetes? Turmeric lowers blood sugar, detoxifies the liver, and reverses insulin resistance, all of which are major components in controlling diabetes.

Considering American diabetes month this November, I'd like to share a little about how this disease is addressed within the Chinese medical system and about one of my favorite points. Chinese medicine refers to diabetes as 'Xiao Ke,' which translates as wasting and thirsting disorder. In short, it is seen to affect the upper body as excessive thirst, the middle body as excessive hunger, and the lower body as excessive urination.

New! Lyme Support Group for Teens and Young Adults
3rd Tuesday of the Month at 6:30 PM (The Stram Center: Delmar)

What: A free support group for all teens and young adults who are afflicted with Lyme are welcome! You do not have to be a patient at the Stram Center. Share your story, find support for the unique challenges this age group has while facing Lyme disease. The group is lead by Julia Rinaolo [email protected] and Kelsey O'Brien: [email protected]. Yoga For Bone Health

Our Yoga for Bone Health is focused on anatomy and proper alignment to improve your posture and balance, give you greater flexibility and range of motion, decrease stress and help counteract osteoporosis.

If you are curious or have wanted to try yoga for enhanced health and well being, this beginner yoga class will gently guide you through common poses used in yoga classes.

Wednesdays at 7:30 PM

These FREE meditation sessions are available at The Center to practice and experience the deep state of meditation. These sessions serve as an introduction for beginners as well as a practice for experienced individuals in the cultivation of clarity and mindfulness.
