(a conversation about identity & worthiness)

with Dr. Kelly Flanagan

He will also share insights from his new book "LOVEABLE"

In His Presence - Elementary Chapel
What does it feel like to be in God's Presence?

In the 1st-5th grade chapels, Mrs. Celek shared several examples of people in the Old Testament that had encounters with God: Adam and Eve, Moses, Jonah, and Elijah, as well as the priest that was chosen once a year to enter the Holy of Holies. Being in God's Presence was powerful, wonderful, and fearful. Because God is holy, we should worship with respect and awe. Two videos helped to illustrate this. You can view them here:

Our program provides terrific opportunities for fathers to connect with their daughters in environments and through activities that many young ladies would not normally experience, such as camping, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, or anything outdoors.

For more information, please email [email protected] or register at www.OBNN.org.

8th Grade Commissioning Chapel

8th Grade Commissioning Chapel
Thank you to Mitch Bahnsen for creating this beautiful recap video.
This past Monday's chapel was a special event for our 8th grade students. It marked the culmination of leadership training that had occurred throughout the month of September and a commissioning into leadership. It was a powerful time in which our 8th graders shared the 1 Timothy 4:12 commitment they had written to be Godly examples in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. The middle school community, including 6th and 7th graders, teachers, staff, and parents, then surrounded the students to pray that the 8th graders would be empowered by the Holy Spirit as they step out as leaders not just at MCS but in God's kingdom. God has called them into this, God has given them each gifts and strengths to lead according to their own unique abilities, God will empower them to take action, and we look forward to watching how God will use them!

Successful First Middle School Bake Sale
Our first bake sale of the school year was an absolute success! The treats were donated by 7th graders, with the main goal of funding a project during their 7th Grade Serve Week, in which they will help feed hungry families. The 7th graders brought in so many treats that we served for 2 days, and brought in a record amount of proceeds!  Thanks to all students and families who baked items, or purchased some of the goodies. Because of you, we are able contribute $949.73 towards our project for feeding families in our community who don't have enough food.

High School Fair at MCS - October 10th
On Tuesday, October 10th, from 3:00-4:30, MCS will host a High School Fair in the MCS Gym. All MCS families, with students of any age, are invited to attend this fair.

Multiple private and public high schools and two college guidance counselors will participate in our High School Fair. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about our surrounding high schools as you explore your options for the next important step in your child's education.

Schools will set up displays to provide an opportunity for you to speak with individual school representatives and gather information.

We hope to see you there. Please contact Robin Walker in the middle school office at [email protected] if you have questions.

October Share 2 Wear - October 17th
Do you have a favorite sports team?  Favorite Sport?  On Tuesday, 10/17/17, our October Share 2 Wear theme is #1 Fan Day!!!

Our "share" focus this month is socks for Orange County's homeless. All socks brought in for Share 2 Wear this month will be handed out to homeless people at Lighthouse Homeless Shelter by our 7th graders during 7th Grade Serve and Solidarity Week. New socks for adults are preferred, but Lighthouse will take used socks that are in very good condition. If middle school students would like to participate in this month's Share 2 Wear, they must bring in  one or more pairs of socks to "share," then they may "wear" #1 Fan attire!

Students can select their favorite team or sport and dress up as a #1 fan! This includes jerseys,  uniforms, sports team shirts, hats (worn outside only), socks, other accessories, etc. to support your favorite team or sport.  If you don't have bottoms that go with the theme, then blue jeans or uniform bottoms may be worn.  Socks will be collected in Homerooms first thing that morning.  Students should very clearly be dressed in the theme, or in uniform attire.  All school dress code guidelines apply.

We will also crown a new homeroom champion with our Share 2 Wear trophy for the month of October!
