Eastern Region Pastors Conference
By The Rev. Ben Eder

The pastors of the Eastern Region met for the Fall Regional Pastors Conference in Ocean City, NJ., from October 2-4, 2017; a total of 28 were in attendance. The presenter was Rev. Mark Wood of the LCMS who spoke on the issue of "Church Revitalization." There was discussion about the nature of outreach - what it is and what it isn't - and how to better integrate new people into worship and the life of the congregation. The Divine Service was held at Peace Lutheran Church in nearby Galloway, NJ, a congregation of the SELC District. Pastors enjoyed the blessings of the beautiful Jersey shore in their free time.

Every One His Witness™ kits available from CPH

The Every One His Witness core module kit is now available through   Concordia Publishing House. The kit provides everything groups need to implement this evangelism program at their church, school, or organization.

What is Every One His Witness?
Every One His Witness  is a Lutheran evangelism program that teaches you to witness to your friends, coworkers, and any other nonchurched people you may know. Using the LASSIE approach to witnessing (listen, ask, seek, share, invite, and encourage), you will learn how to naturally share the Good News of Jesus Christ through relational, contextual witnessing.

What does this mean?  It means listening to those who are unsure about Christianity. It means asking questions that aren't accusatory. It means sharing the Good News about Jesus. Notice how there's no bashing, no judgment, and no forced imposition of beliefs. Instead, there's understanding, communication, and honesty between friends. And Every One His Witness teaches you how.

Each kit, which is designed for a group of 12, contains:
  • Every One His Witness workbooks (12)
  • DVD (1)
  • LASSIE journals (12)
  • Experience cards (6)
  • Pens (12)
The English District is offering a $40.00 rebate to the first 50 congregations (1 rebate per congregation) that purchase the Every One His Witness kit from CPH. To receive the rebate, email your receipt to Derek Mathers.

A Golden Opportunity to Witness
By Augusta R. Mennell

If we pay close attention and listen, we may find a golden opportunity to share our faith. Today's post is another great example of the importance of Campus Ministry.

This summer presented a golden opportunity for campus ministry at All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center. Three international students: Wendy and Paula (not their real names), who are Muslims, and Jane, an Orthodox Christian, were on Slippery Rock University's (SRU) campus a week before most of the students had arrived. Because these students were not yet taking classes they had little to do. They were eager to talk and to visit places in the area. They were glad to share just about everything, including their religious beliefs. The Lord had given campus ministry a golden opportunity.

In today's politically-correct world, many secular people and some Christians believe that although sharing friendship is fine, they believe it is an imposition to bring up, even just to mention, religious beliefs. In short, personal religious beliefs must never be brought up in public. Campus ministry, however, believes that sharing the Christian faith is not an imposition, but is a God-given opportunity

Augusta R. Mennell is the Campus Ministry Director at All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center in Slippery Rock, PA. If you have a mission or ministry story you'd like to share, please submit for consideration via email to Lynne at [email protected].

Thank you and the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Elk Grove, IL, for your generous care packages! We will make sure they get disseminated to as many soldiers and airmen here at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. We always love to hear that we have the support and prayers of our fellow Americans and that we are as grateful for all of you as you are for what we do. We are well and in good spirits and again can't thank you all enough for this extension of your prayers and generosity.

Thank you again from each and every one of us and God bless you all!

Thank you, Delores!
This is being published with permission from Rev.Timothy Holzerland, Shepherd King, West Bloomfield, MI.

Delores Jung is moving to Kalamazoo, MI, the week of October 8, 2017. Shepherd King will honor and give thanks for her service to the Lord and being a part of Shepherd King's church family for 50 years. Delores and her husband, Rev. Donald Jung, English District President from 1984-87, raised their family at Lutheran Church of the Shepherd King in West Bloomfield, MI

Delores also worked in the District office from 1988-1989, as secretary to Ervin Henkelmann, English District Parish Services Executive. She served in the English District LWML as well as the local zone, where she served as recording secretary for many years. Delores also worked as the administrative assistant for Shepherd King until her retirement in 2007. She helped to lead a small group, sang in the choir, and helped with various projects throughout the years. We are grateful to God for her friendship, guidance and service at Shepherd King and the English District. May the Lord bless her in the days ahead and keep her in His care.

Reformation Celebration
On September 29-30, 2017, the Arizona South Circuit and LCMS-U at the University of Arizona hosted Dr. Joel Biermann of Concordia Seminary, St Louis, MO, as part of its Reformation 500 Commemoration. Dr. Biermann presented on "Redeemed for the Creation," and "Wholly Citizens, the Christian Life in God's Two Realms," both of which dovetailed nicely with the English District's Reformation 500 theme, as well as Bishop Jamison J. Hardy's theme for the triennium of "love your neighbor as yourself."
