The OLMA Overview -- October 6, 2017
I want to begin this week's message with a huge note of thanks to everyone who helped make last Saturday night's ROCK 'N RAISE such a great success. Your kindness, generosity and willingness to help in any way you can continues to amaze me, as well as warm my heart. We had a great crowd and the music was awesome. The members of Secret Sauce donated their time and talent in support of our school and we cannot thank them enough. To all of you who helped with the planning, volunteered that night, donated food and basket items, thank you so much. We hope you enjoyed the event. We'll be bringing it back next year!

On Tuesday, I had the honor of officially welcoming the members of the Class of 2021, as well as our nine transfer students into the OLMA Sisterhood. Each new student received a beautiful bracelet from her Big Sister. We began this tradition last year and plan to continue it annually in celebration of sisterhood as a way of bonding us all in faith and friendship.

Next week, our campus will be hopping as we welcome nearly 70 young women on Friday morning for the first of two Shadow Days we are holding this fall. While here, our guests will experience the OLMA Sisterhood at its best. Visiting students will tour the school, attend classes, visit the OLMA Chapel for a prayer service, experience bravery training, and help make a difference in the lives of some special children in need. Our second Shadow Day will be on Friday, October 27, so please help us spread the word.

Have a fabulous long weekend. -- Mrs. Coyle

Student Spotlight
Alyssa Allen, Class of 2018

Despite the fact that she was the only one from her 8th grade class from Woodland Country Day School to go to OLMA, Alyssa Allen knew it was the place for her. "I had a lot of choices, but really liked the atmosphere at OLMA," said Alyssa. "On the day I shadowed, I could see how close the girls were and I wanted that."

Four years later, Alyssa's last first day of high school is already in the rear view mirror. She's glad she decided to come to OLMA and has made many close friends. She also learned to play volleyball and is starting her third year on the team -- her second as a varsity player. Alyssa is also a member of OLMA's new Dance Club moderated by Mrs. Nicole Donovan, who joined us as Health Sciences Instructor this fall. "It's a lot of fun," said Alyssa. "So far we've done a lot of hip hop and some Irish tap."

As much as she enjoys dance, though, her first love is riding Rio -- her horse of five years. "Riding is so relaxing," she said. "I used to compete, but now I just ride for fun." Luckily, Alyssa hails from Rosenhayn where there is no shortage of great trails.

Looking ahead, Alyssa hopes to pursue a career in Psychology and has her sights set on a doctorate. "I enjoy helping people and am a very good listener," she said. She is in the process of applying to colleges with Mount St. Mary's and Loyola University, sitting at number one and two respectively on her list.

When asked if she had any advice or words of wisdom to pass along to incoming students, Alyssa said, "Enjoy all of the little moments because high school goes by in the blink of an eye." Indeed it does. Happy trails always, Alyssa.
