The McMinnville Elks Lodge #1283 is part of an organization that has been in existence for 150 years! The Elks invest in their communities through programs that benefit their community. The local club has;
- Applied for grants to purchase necessities for house bound Veterans
- Helped with backpacks and school supplies for McMinnville Students
- Conducted essay contests in which the winners receive scholarships through Elks donations
- Volunteer time at the Children's Eye Clinic
- Are a resource renting Lodge space for special events like weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and more
Elk members are able to join with a network of Lodges, RV Parks and Camper Clubs plus enjoy the satisfaction of working together to make this a better community.

Most of my work in life, whether paid or volunteer, has in some way been related to the field of Human Resource Management. I was employed with an official HR title for the first time in 2011, receiving extensive employment law and best employment practices training during the following years through BOLI Technical Assistance for Employers, OSHA, SAIF, Cascade Employers Association and others. Not only did this provide a solid foundation for my understanding of employment law, and best practices, the enhanced training opportunities I took advantage of related to Employee Engagement, Performance Management, Organizational Development, Change Management, and Training and Development methods created a balance of the legal and the human sides of HR Management. In addition, I received my PHR (Professional Human Resource) certificate 1/2014, and my SHRM-CP (Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional) 4/2015. I quickly discovered other HR practitioners, even those with many years of professional-level HR experience, had not received this same level of training. As local business owners and HR practitioners began to seek me out for advice or to simply bounce ideas off me, the concept formed of starting my own consulting firm.
Today I am pleased to be a local partner to our community businesses, providing professional-level Human Resource guidance and services for those with no in-house HR practitioner!

Teach Peace through Basic Mediation Training
2017 Basic Mediation Training will be offered by Your Community Mediators of Yamhill County at their McMinnville downtown offices on two Fridays and two Saturdays this October (10/13, 10/14, 10/27 & 10/28). The 32-hour training satisfies State of Oregon requirements for certified community volunteer mediators. Ongoing continuing education opportunities and supervised experience help trainees develop their skills and personal competence.
Business leaders might consider this skill training for their employees as a professional development opportunity, or may themselves become a volunteer mediator to give back to their community in a very worthwhile and satisfying way.
Participants learn and practice conflict resolution skills to increase effectiveness in listening to and communicating with people in discord; they will assist disputants to reach mutually satisfying agreements; enhance negotiation skills; work with strong emotions respectfully and constructively; manage cross-cultural differences; and respond appropriately to ethical dilemmas that arise in the mediation process.

Recology Staff Change
Recology Western Oregon is pleased to announce that RWO General Manager Fred Stemmler has accepted a management position with a newly acquired group of Recology companies in Northern California. Fred will be succeeded by another veteran Recology employee-owner, Carl Peters. Carl currently manages the company's Portland-area operations, as well as compost facilities around the state.
All of us here are RWO wish Fred and his family the best of luck in their new adventure!
 MEDP Announces Annual Award Winners
On October 3, MEDP (the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership) held their Annual Event and Awards Ceremony: Forging the Economic Future. The purpose of the event was to highlight MEDP as an organization and to celebrate the manufacturers they support. Along with messaging regarding MEDP's Annual Report, Business Highlights, and information on the organization's "three pillars" (McMinnville | MADE, McMinnville | SITES, McMinnville | WORKS), MEDP also announced their annual award winners.
This year, MEDP added two new award categories: Collaborators of the Year, which celebrated the successful Educational Manufacturing Tours, and the McMinnville WORKS Intern's Choice for Professional Development.
The winners of the Collaborators of the Year included the McMinnville School District: Dr. Maryalice Russell, McMinnville High School: Principal Tony Vicknair, McMinnville High School - EASA/McMinnville Robotics Alliance: David Larson, and Patton Middle School/McMinnville Robotics Alliance: Michelle Brantner. In addition, the companies who held the educational tours, NW Rapid Manufacturing, Northwest UAV, and eCNC, inc. were given awards for their dedication to connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences.
The winners of the McMinnville WORKS Intern's Choice Award for Professional Development included Stacy Stack, Express Professional Employment, who revealed the latest job searching techniques, Deven Paolo, Solid Form Fabrication, who broke down the elements of project management, and Shon Holyfield, TTR, who explored the journey of entrepreneurship.
The Board of Director's Award for Outstanding Partner of the year was given to Chemeketa Community College. Chemeketa received the award due to the long lasting partnership with MEDP, as well as, the McMinnville community and the manufacturers in the area. In partnership with MEDP, the team will be launching the new Chemeketa WORKS Internship Program which will offer year-round internships to local businesses and organizations.
MEDP's Manufacturing Leader of the Year Award was Heather Harris, President and Owner of NW Rapid Manufacturing. Not only is NW Rapid Manufacturing on the cutting edge of technology, Harris has been instrumental in partnering with MEDP on multiple projects including opening her company for a tour by Oregon Governor Kate Brown and hosting three educational tours for middle school and high school students.
MEDP's Manufacturer of the Year Award was Organic Valley. With the purchase of the former Farmers Coop Creamery building, Organic Valley has shown from day one their commitment to the McMinnville community. With over $20 million invested in their new facility, their dedication to local farmers in both Oregon and Washington, and the development of over 25 family-wage jobs in the McMinnville community, MEDP was proud to present Organic Valley with manufacturer of the year.
MEDP Receives International Award for Monthly Newsletter
On Tuesday, September 19, 2017 the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership (MEDP) received a silver award for their monthly newsletter, the MEDP Spark, from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The IEDC is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization who serves economic developers around the world. The annual IEDC Awards were created to distinguish the world's best economic development programs. The marketing award recognizes the effectiveness of the materials, innovation and creativity, quality, and the contribution it makes to the economic development profession.
The MEDP Spark was created to keep partners, investors, and the McMinnville community informed about the exciting developments taking place in McMinnville, Oregon. Sent monthly to an email list of over 1,500 recipients, the newsletter includes interviews with companies, organizations, and leaders in McMinnville and provides a closer look into what makes McMinnville a great place to work and live.
Michael Langley, CEO of Greater MSP and 2017 IEDC Board chair said about the IEDC awards, "These are extraordinary accomplishments for all winners." In 2017, IEDC received more submissions for awards than ever before, making this year even more competitive.
MEDP works each month to craft unique, editorial-style stories. The reception of the newsletter, as well as seeing featured companies use the stories in their own marketing campaigns, has shown the worthiness of the newsletter to the McMinnville community. The organization is overjoyed to have this accomplishment recognized by the International Economic Development Council.
Marketing Specialist at MEDP and head writer of the newsletter, Lacey Dykgraaf, commented on the newsletter saying: "Each month, writing the MEDP Spark gives us in the MEDP office a chance to celebrate McMinnville. Whether that's a company, program, or event, we love exposing people to the behind the scenes business community."
