The Paradise Town Council, as elected in the 2017 Municipal Election, are now officially in office. The Council Swearing-in Ceremony took place on Tuesday night, October 3 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex. The Mayor and members of council were joined by their families and friends along with government representatives as they took the Oath of Office to affirm their responsibilities. 

The first public meeting of the new Council is Tuesday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. at Council Chambers, located at Paradise Town Hall.  
Paradise No. 8: Year 1 Update  
Paradise Fire Station No. 8 has marked one full year of operation in the Town. Since opening its doors in August 2016, it has responded to 394 calls in the service area and the average response time is 4:38. Prior to the dedicated fire station, 254 calls were responded to in the Paradise area and the average response time was 8:35.

"Paradise Fire Station No.8 has been a great addition to our Town and these statistics show the benefits of having dedicated fire and emergency services for our residents," said Mayor Dan Bobbett. "The St. John's Regional Fire Department is a strong community partner to our Town and we enjoy working with the team at Paradise No. 8."

Located at 1565 Topsail Road, Paradise Fire Station No. 8 is equipped with Engine 8 and Tanker 8, and a staff complement of 17 firefighters.
Municipal Plan Approved 
The new Municipal Plan for the Town of Paradise has been approved by Council. It follows from a statutory Public Hearing held in July with Commissioner Ms. Elaine Mitchell. During the hearing, the Commissioner heard from residents and filed a report with Council based on comments and submissions received at the meeting. The Commissioner recommended the Town Council approve the Paradise Municipal Plan with several minor amendments, which Council accepted.

The Paradise Municipal Plan must now be registered with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as per the Urban and Rural Planning Act . This process has started and it is anticipated the new plan will be in effect by the end of the year. 
Girl Guides Haunted House 
Prepare to be scared! Paradise District Girl Guides are hosting a Haunted House on Sunday, October 15. With help from the 905 Viking Royal Canadian Air Cadets, this year's Haunted House in the Paradise Double Ice Complex is sure to be fun for all ages. 

There is a time slot for children from 4 - 6 p.m. followed by a youth to adult time slot from 7 - 10 p.m. The event will have a photographer on hand to capture the fun and free hot chocolate for everyone.  For more information, please call 782-6290 or email . 
Thanksgiving Closures & Garbage Schedule Changes
Paradise Town Hall is closed Monday, October 9 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Paradise Double Ice Complex, including the Body Quest Fitness Centre, is open for regular hours on Monday, October 9. The Paradise Rotary Youth and Community Centre is also open for regular operations.

Residents are advised that the garbage and recycling collection schedule for the week of October 9 will move ahead by one day. For more information on how your area is affected, please visit our website. 
Road Work Update
The public are reminded of ongoing road work and street upgrades in the areas of:
  • Paradise Road (repair various sections, resurfacing between Milton Road and Stormont Street);
  •  Topsail Road (Intermittent grind and patch work as and replacement of gabion wall between Trails End Drive and Sunvalley Drive); and
  • Kenmount Road.
Work is expected to continue in these areas throughout October and into November, and will be taking place daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and every second Saturday. During all road work, efforts will be made to minimize impact on traffic flow; however residents can expect traffic delays in the areas. The public is reminded to use caution in these areas. The Town of Paradise apologizes for any inconvenience this road work may cause.
