What a great Walk-a-thon we had today! Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to be with us this morning.  The sun was shining and the students were smiling - everyone enjoyed the beautiful day that God gave us for our walk. We have included some photos down below with a link to enjoy a few more.

And speaking of volunteers, our big signature event is coming up in THREE weeks! We still need many volunteers to help us decorate the day before and to attend the event and help with checking people out after the auction.  If you are able to help, please contact Phyllis Lund in the Advancement Office at ext. 1202.  This is our first event of this kind, and we really want it to go smoothly.  Even if it is just for a few hours the day before, we can use you!

Enjoy a great long weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Congrats to this week's winners!

Apple Tasting in Ms. Synan's Pre-K  4B Class!

The students in Ms. Synan's PreK 4-B class have been discussing the theme of apples. They enjoyed hearing the storybook "Apples" by Melvin and Gilda Berger.  The story helped the students learn and identify three different apple colors: red, green, and yellow.  After having a taste of each color, the students decided which color they enjoyed the most and created a class graph.

The winner?  Why the red apple, of course!

They went on to learn about the life cycle of an apple along with other fun apple facts and even added some new vocabulary words. Their apple exploration ended with a discussion about the various ways p eople like to eat apples.  Yum!

Walk-a-thon

What A Great Day!

What a great day we had today for the walk-a-thon! Thank you to the many people who volunteered their time to help out. The students had a great time and enjoyed having so many people cheering them on as they did their laps.  And don't forget...this fun day helps to raise money for our school!

Kindergarten News

Feast  of St. Francis of Assisi

Our kindergarten students learned about St. Francis of Assisi and his love of animals and the earth this week in honor of his feast day, October 4th. The students painted pictures of the world around them and then brought their stuffed animals over to Nathan Bill Park for a special blessing.

SchoolsNEXT

Congratulations SMA Team!

We wanted to share the letter received from the SchoolsNEXT judging chair.  We are so proud of our 2016-17 Team - you rocked it!

September 23, 2017

Dear Ms. Kaimi,

Congratulations to the St. Michael's Academy team on being selected as the winners of the Award of Commendation!

The jury applauded their focus on learning modalities, financial model including contingencies and exceptional presentation skills. Challenged to plan and design sustainable and resilient learning spaces that encourage innovation, critical thinking and collaboration, these young designers have broadened the potential of a school by connecting excellence in design with excellence in education. The St. Michael's Academy students displayed remarkable enthusiasm, rigorous research and exception teamwork, creating solutions that not only meet the needs of students, but address the economy and society of the future, enabling them to master the skills they need to take on the challenges of a world defined by change.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity you have afforded so many of your students over the years. I know how proud you must be!  Indeed, they will lead us into the future and that future will be brighter!

We can't wait to see next year's team!

Warm regards,
David L. Schrader
Chairman

Girls On The Run

Girls On The Run Update

The St. Michael's Academy Heart & Sole team has been working hard and have explored and practiced skills such as recognizing strengths, setting goals, resolving conflict, and healthy friendships.  At the end of each lesson, the girls reflect and record their thoughts in their journals to help them synthesize the "big idea."  Several parents have commented on positive changes they have seen in their girls!

As many of you know, the programs ends with a 5K run and the girls are gearing up. There is a practice 5K scheduled for 4 p.m. on October 30th.  Show your support by attending and cheering the girls on!  It usually lasts about 60-90 minutes.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact [email protected].

Please Help

Help Is Needed

As we are all aware, so many people have been affected by weather and natural disasters from hurricanes to earthquakes.  We, as the family of St. Michael's Academy, would like to make a financial contribution to the efforts.  We started the collection at the Back To School Night last week but we wanted to give all of our families the opportunity to donate.

Please consider helping these families; some who have absolutely nothing.  We sometimes take for granted the luxury of drinking water, food and a roof over our heads.  Let's help our neighbors get back on their feet. We put this in the newsletter last week and received no responses.  Donations may be sent in with your child in an envelope clearly marked "Donations for Families in Need." Our total donation will be sent to the Catholic Charities USA.  If you would like to learn more about what this organization is doing, please click here.  Please know that 100% of the donated dollars go to helping others.

To those of you who gave at the Back To School night, thank you. Your generosity will help many!
