Ministry Leadership Chairs and Co-Chairs

The Renewal process that St. Brendan's has undertaken is just that - in providing an opportunity to step back and take stock of the 'people resources' we are blessed with along with how and where these talents can best be used in the ministry work of St. Brendan's.

The Renewal Plan Team is pleased to share St. Brendan's Ministry Leadership, Chairs and Co-Chairs as follows:

Education & Spiritual Development: Co-Chairs, Barbara Wright &
                                                                                            Patricia Donohue
Outreach:                                           Co-Chairs, Woody Osborne & Martha Dane
Pastoral Care & Welcoming:              Co-Chairs, Diane Greenlaw & Carolyn Mor
Stewardship & Finance:                     Chair,  Ruth Robinson

The Ministry Launch meetings (see below) will provide an opportunity for Ministry (former Committee) members to gather with Chairs, Co-chairs and review and discuss Ministry descriptions,  responsibilities and priorities that will lay the groundwork for the Ministry work of St. Brendan's for the coming 12-18 months.

Thank you for your commitment to serve!

Ministry Launch Meeting Saturday, October 7th +
+ Follow Up Session Sunday, October 8th:

An important 'next step' in our Renewal Plan progress will be a Ministry Launch Meeting Saturday, October 7th from 9-11am for all those involved and interested in serving, to meet with and develop Ministry Descriptions for the work of St. Brendan's as we move forward with implementing our Parish Renewal Plan.  Fr. Edward Dufresne and The Rev. Vesta Kowalsk will be on hand to help facilitate and assist Saturday morning's Ministry launch work.

For the convenience of those unable to attend Saturday, and to wrap up Ministry Descriptions, there will be an added Ministry Launch Follow-Up session with Fr. Edward Dufresne following Sunday's 10am service.

Those who are  - or would like to be - involved but are not able to attend are invited to contact the Ministry Chairs/Co-chairs listed above.

Parking Lot Receives Facelift

The 'apron' area of St. Brendan's parking lot was paved this week to help enhance ease of entering and exiting. Additional work is scheduled in the next few weeks to move rocks and re-grade the front lawn area adjacent to the road, again in an effort to provide increased visibility when entering and leaving the parking lot.

Thanks to Junior Warden Jo Jacob, Property Management Chair Meg Graham and team for overseeing good work!

Scripture Notes for The Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost

In today's liturgy, we have a parable warning us as God's people  to be faithful to God, lest God turn away from us. This parable may have been a simple story

about the need to seize the opportunity God holds out.   Matthew has taken images, especially from today's Old Testament reading, and allegorized the original story to make a point which the Church in his day needed to hear and which we need to hear today.

For months, we have been reading the history of the establishment of God's
people, beginning with Abraham and Sarah. It has led us to the Exodus from
Egypt. Today the journey through the  wilderness has come to Mount Sinai. Here God establishes the law by which his people are to  live in the giving of the Ten Commandments.

Paul calls on the church in Philippi to hold fast to their faith and practice. We are not to be anxious about anything, rather we should expend our energy reaching
out to be the kind of people God calls us to be. For we are citizens of heaven,
Paul tells us, and we are destined for  glory.

God's people need the warnings of the prophets and of Jesus to balance our knowledge that we have been redeemed. While God's action of redeeming us is
set and established, we must nevertheless live the lives of redeemed people.
Our weekly gatherings in Eucharist are not meant to lull us into complacency but
to strengthen us and equip us to follow the Way of Christ.

Icon of St. Brendan by Siri Beckman

Lord, I will trust you.

Help me to journey beyond the familiar and  into the unknown.

Give me the faith to leave old ways and break new ground with you.

Christ of the mysteries, I trust you to be stronger than each     storm  within me.

I will trust in the darkness and know that my times are in your hand.

Tune my spirit to the music of heaven, and somehow, make my   obedience count for you.
