During the fiscal year 2018 budget process, the City Council directed the Capital Planning Committee to craft bond questions to respond to immediate public infrastructure and facility needs that also lessen the burden on the general fund and ultimately the tax payer. Three bond questions were approved by the City Council to be voted on by the community in the upcoming November 7th election.

On Monday, October 9th, Saco City Hall will be closed. City Hall will reopen on Tuesday, October 10th, and will resume normal business hours.

career  Firefighter/EMT, Kenneth K.T.Pendleton  has retired, working his last shift  on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Prior to joining the Saco Fire Department, Ken was a member of the Camp Ellis Volunteer Fire Department.  Please join us in wishing Ken a

National Preparedness Month

September  was National Preparedness Month. Sponsored by FEMA, National Preparedness Month aims to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks.

In an emergency, every second counts- that's why it's crucial to have a game plan, and why this year's National Preparedness Month theme is "Don't Wait Communicate." This September, as part of National Preparedness Month, the Red Cross encourages all Americans to develop a family game plan.

Fire Prevention Week

This year's theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!".  Some activities you can do with your family include: 

• Draw a map of your home (PDF) with all members of your household, marking two exits from each room and a path to the outside from each exit.
• Practice your home fire drill twice a year. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out.
• Teach children how to escape on their own in case you can't help them.
• Make sure the number of your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find.
• Close doors behind you as you leave - this may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire.
• Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building.

Historic Preservation Lecture Series

Preserving the Built History of Saco and Biddeford is a series of lectures and workshops organized by the  Historic Preservation Commissions in Saco and Biddeford for residents, owners, and appreciators of historic properties.

The first session, Preserving the Wood Island Lighthouse with Brad Coupe and Kyle Noble of  The Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse, takes place at  Engine located at 128 Main Street in Biddeford on October 12th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Karl Finley joined the Saco Fire Department in August of 2003. Karl currently serves as our  Public Education Coordinator, a position he has held since 2013.  In this  position he has been instrumental in establishing our Citizen Fire Academy, Annual Open  House, and the "Ride to School" program.  Karl truly goes above and beyond, working hard to ensure that children have interacted with firefighters in full gear, so that during an emergency they do not hide out of fear but will instead follow the emergency plan developed with their families.

Along with his duties as the Public Education  Coordinator, Karl is a  Firefighter/Paramedic assigned to B-Shift.   Recently, Karl completed the EMS Instructor Program and he serves on a newly formed in-house committee that is focused on improving the health and well being of our firefighters. Thank you, Karl for your dedication and commitment to Saco!
