Letter from Laurie

Dear Neighbor,
As we embark upon this season of thanksgiving, it is an honor for me to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve you as your New York City Council Member for another four years.
I am proud to represent this vibrant district, full of culture and history. Local elections are critical, and just over 30,000 residents of District 35 came out and voted on Tuesday. As I reflect on my first term, it has given me a deeper appreciation for the unsung heroes who are the fabric of the 35th Council District.
You have all inspired me to fight harder for the critical resources that will enable our district to reach higher heights.
After welcoming a healthy and handsome baby boy three months ago, I am excited to resume my official duties beginning November 27th to ensure that we finish strong in 2017. Thank you again for your well wishes and prayers!
Over the next four years, I look forward to working more closely with each of you in various capacities and keeping you all abreast of our incredible victories within and beyond the 35th Council District. As some of you were aware, due to a blackout period prompted by the election season, our office was restricted from sending e-mails and other types of correspondence
during the last several months. The only permitted communication during this time were pertaining to emergencies and annual recurring events.
It is of the utmost importance to me as your Council Member that you are engaged and informed about upcoming events, community updates, and opportunities. We are resuming our e-newsletters and mailers. Additionally, you can c
ontinue to visit our
blog,
which is updated regularly with great information or follow @cmlauriecumbo on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Our office is always looking to connect with our constituents; in this digital age, constituents should be able to contact us at their convenience. Starting today, we are implementing a new online intake form that will make it easier for you to contact my office. Of course, you can still come to our district office during constituent service hours, which are held Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In observance of Veterans' Day, our office is closed today and will reopen on Monday during normal business hours. Please read this bulletin and make note of the City services that will be suspended. I strongly urge all of you to please take the time to thank a veteran for their service and duty to our country. These are true American heroes who have made incredible sacrifices to protect our freedom.
Yours in Partnership,
Laurie A. Cumbo

To Our Veterans - Thank You For Your Service
|
|
One day is incomparable to the lifetime of sacrifices made by veterans of past and present wars.
On behalf of the 35th Council District, I would like to thank every soldier who courageously served in our nation's Armed Forces.
Every day that we can freely pursue love, happiness, and prosperity is an opportunity that we can never take for granted.
Thank you for protecting our freedoms!

Cumbo Statement on Centennial of Women's Suffrage
|
|
|
As chair of the Committee on Women's Issues and co-chair of the Women's Caucus, I am proud to celebrate the centennial of women's suffrage and the pioneers that helped propel women into the voting booth and ultimately public office. This Movement was a catalyst for the advancement of gender equity in the State of New York and across the U.S. Despite our significant achievements and invaluable contributions, women remain underrepresented as elected officials in all levels of government. As we embark upon the next century, we must endeavor to continue the legacy of these dynamic women by increasing opportunities for women of all backgrounds to have a seat at the table.
