Volunteers help remove rock from a Sucia Island beach in 2014.

Friends and our partners are busy improving nearshore habitat for fish, wildlife and people this fall - and we could use your help! We're looking for volunteers for restoration projects on Shaw and Lopez Islands in the coming month.

1. Shaw Island Blind Bay Beach Restoration Project: Tues., October 17, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Help remove angular quarry spall rocks to unbury a sand and pea gravel beach at a high priority surf smelt spawning site.

2. Lopez Island Fisherman Bay Spit Wetland Restoration Project: Wed., November 1, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Help Friends and Land Bank staff plant native trees and shrubs along a recently restored coastal wetland.

Please contact Tina at [email protected] or 360-298-7616 for details. Volunteers will need their own transportation to and from the site. Work gloves provided. Please bring water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty.

Thank you for your support!
