Worship with Us this Weekend!
Please join us this weekend for Generosity/Consecration Sunday... Traditional Worship at 9:30 and/or Informal Worship at 11:00am with a sermon entitled Pockets of Faith based on lectionary scriptures -- Psalm 78:1-7 and Matthew 25:1-13 - the story of the bridesmaids, their lamps and oil - hoarding, reserving, sharing? It's a vision of the early church of Acts. What does it mean to be wise or foolish with our resources? What and how do we pass on gifts to the next generation?
Stew piece here please...

Parkway Isn't Complete Without...YOU! The 2018 stewardship campaign is underway! By now, each of you should have received a 2018 pledge card in the mail. This Sunday, Nov 12, is Consecration Sunday! We will each bring our pledge cards to church on that day as we come together to pledge our support for Parkway in the coming year!

Please be in prayerful consideration as you complete your pledge card for 2018. We would like to meet our pledged contributions goal of $350,000 without a subsequent challenge campaign being necessary.

Taste and See- A Preview of the Month of Grace + Prayer Retreat in Everyday Life
Parkway United Church of Christ ("joyful, inclusive, compassionate') and Dayspring Baptist Church ('open in heart and mind'), close neighbors in Town and Country, will be co-hosting a retreat in everyday life. The retreat will start January 14, 2018 and for the following four weeks, participants will pray on their own at least 20 minutes each day, and then meet one-on-one with a spiritual companion for one hour each week. [Couples also have the option to participate as a couple.] This winter prayer experience is free though donations are accepted.

Home for the Holidays Sunday November 12 at 11:00 AM only
The holidays are a time of joy with family. We may see loved ones for the first time in months or years, and we may be concerned about aging relatives. Attend this workshop to learn to look at dementia from a faith-based viewpoint and how congregations help families impacted with dementia. In addition, find out information about the warning signs of Alzheimer's, what to do if you're concerned about a loved one's memory and tips on how to understand and communicate with someone living with dementia. The class will be led by Raven Carroway, The Greater Missouri Alzheimer's Association Faith Outreach Coordinator. Questions? Contact Joyce Ruiz @
or 314-494-8979

On November 19,
Clarence Heller, coordinator of this retreat ministry
www.momentsofgraceandprayer.org will facilitate the Adult Education Class. At the class you will get an overview of the retreat, participate in some prayer experiences, learn how others have benefited from this retreat, and get the answers to any questions you may have.

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Video of the Week
The tragedy at the church in Texas is on the minds, hearts and spirits of many...
Spend about five minutes with this beautiful song inspired by Romans 8:31 -39 after the December 2016 bombing of the St Peter & Mary (Botroseya) church in Cairo, Egypt.

[I found this song when I was reading this intense article - Could My Church Be Next?

Alzheimer's Fact
Wandering raises safety concerns for someone living with Alzheimer's. Six in ten people will wander. A person living with Alzheimer's may not remember his or her name or address, and can become disoriented, even in familiar places. Wandering among people living with dementia is dangerous, but there are strategies and services to help prevent it.

1.  Have a routine to provide structure.

2.  Identify the most likely times of day that wandering may occur and plan activities at that time.

3.  Ensure all basic needs are met, such as toileting, eating and drinking water.

4.  Avoid busy places that are confusing and can cause disorientation. This could be shopping malls, grocery stores, large gatherings and other busy venues.

5.  Keep car keys out of sight.

6.  Place locks out of the line of sight, either high or low on exterior doors.

7.  Use devices that signal when a door or window is opened.

8.  Provide supervision, never leave a person locked in a home or in a car alone.

9.  Make a plan, so you know what to do in case of an emergency.

Inspiration
After hearing a sermon on Psalm 52:3-4 (lies and deceit), a woman wrote the IRS, "I can't sleep knowing that I have cheated on my income tax. Enclosed is a check for $150. If I still can ' t sleep, I ' ll send the rest."
