Residents sent in so many photos of the splendors of autumn in Como that we couldn't keep up. So, for the next few weeks, we'll relive recent glories. Sophie Niedenfuer loves photographing this red oak east of Lexington Parkway.
City Officials Seek Ideas for Mini Golf Site
putt'er there mini golf closed
Putt'er There closed this fall after 25 years in business
St. Paul Parks and Recreation is looking for a partner to manage the miniature golf course site within Como Park. Parks  officials say the facility could remain as a spot for mini golf, but they're open to other ideas.

The city's contract with Putt'er There Miniature Golf Course expired this fall. Parks officials say they're interested in proposals that "enhance the recreational, social, and cultural vitality of the area while balancing the needs of the regional park."   Operating the new site, whatever it becomes, would begin next spring. The deadline to  submit a proposa l is this Thursday, Nov. 16.
What a Load of Junk (That's a Good Thing)

The citywide drop off event held Oct. 7 at the Fairgrounds turned in some impressive numbers:
  • 817 vehicle passed through the gates, a 29 percent increase over 2016
  • More than 127 tons of material was collected, 40 percent more than 2016
  • Materials were evenly split between recyclables and refuse
  • 49 bikes and 32 small engines were dropped off
  • Volunteers gathered enough reusable goods to send one trailer and four carloads full of household goods to charities for reuse
A special thanks to the 64 volunteers who helped direct traffic, collect money, and unload items! District 10 organized the event in coordination with the city's All In program. If you still have junk sitting in your garage or basement -- don't worry: Three will be more events next year.
Add Us To Your List on Give to The Max Day

Your support of District 10 on Give to the Max Day through GiveMN will help us continue working with you to solve issues and improve the quality of life in Como.   Officially, Give to the Max Day is this Thursday, Nov. 16. But why risk crashing their website? You can donate now and it still counts.

Your financial support helps us -- t he Como Community Council -- support a vibrant neighborhood. We do that by providing a voice for residents, businesses, and nonprofits in shaping decisions made by elected officials, local government agencies, and large institutions. Our volunteers organize neighborhood events, work to maintain a safe neighborhood, enhance the natural environment, and welcome new neighbors. We keep our neighborhood informed and provide a trusted public forum to address concerns. So, thank you in advance!
Help Name Como Zoo's Baby Gorilla this Weekend
Some mother/baby bonding
The newest member of Como Zoo's family arrived Oct. 18 -- but she still needs a name.

The Zoo will be set up ballot boxes  this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. so members of the public can vote for one of three names: Nyati (pronounced Nie-ot-e), Lucy, or Rocky. The winning name will be announced this Monday, Nov. 13.  The vote is a part of Como Zoo's    Go Great Apes  weekend, which features family friendly activities, games, crafts, stories for kids, and zookeeper talks.

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait to see the baby. She's not on exhibit to the public while zookeepers let her bond with Alice, her mother.

Don't Be a Victim of Package Theft
Online shopping season has begun. That also means an increase in package theft from front porches and doorsteps. St. Paul Police offer several tips to avoid being a victim of this crime of opportunity:
  • Ask for a tracking number so you can track your packages and receive notification when they're delivered.
  • Require a signature when packages are delivered, to ensure they aren't simply left at your front door.
  • Request a specific drop-off time and date when you will be home to accept your packages.
  • Arrange to have your packages held at the shipping service so you can pick them up.
  • Ask the delivery service to leave your packages at a side or back door.
  • If possible, have your packages delivered to your workplace, or to the home of a relative or neighbor.
  • If your packages do not arrive as scheduled, contact the sender immediately.
  • If you see someone stealing a package, call 911 immediately.
