Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful Walk-A-Thon last Friday. The students were energized, the weather was perfect, and we all had a great time. I want to thank Sally Grigg, who chaired the event, and all of her helpers for a day that flowed smoothly and was fun for everyone. The event was also quite lucrative. Final accounting will not be complete for several weeks, but it is likely that the profit will exceed $36,000. Thank you for your generosity and the assistance you gave your children in obtaining pledges. As you know these funds are used to keep everyone's tuition lower.
Grandparents' and Grand-Friends' Day is coming soon on Monday, October 16
th. This day has long been a tradition at St. Rose that many of our children, grandparents and friends look forward to each year. This year it will include an opportunity for our guests to visit the classrooms, attend a short prayer service, and enjoy some wonderful musical entertainment presented by our students. In the younger grades, sometimes children who don't have a guest can feel quite left out. So if it is not possible for a special friend or grandparent to attend, we encourage a parent to come in their place. Many of our older students don't mind as much if they have no guest and are happy to join with another student and guest.
We hope that all of the students will be at school that day to take part in this tradition. However, we recognize that for some families this day can be emotionally difficult. If that is the case, we will understand if you choose to keep your child home.
October 16
th was chosen as the date for Grandparents' Day, because Cardinal Newman is not in session and there is more parking available. Please keep the circle free for our guests with disabilities.
Thanks so much for your support. I hope you'll give me a call whenever you have questions, concerns, or ideas. Have a nice week!

Communication & School Safety
Communication with parents is important. The weekly school newsletter is a great tool for parents to stay informed. And, as you now know, we use text messaging to keep parents updated with important reminders, as well as in the event of an emergency at school.
School Safety: The safety of everyone on our campus is paramount to us. Parent Volunteers must be compliant with Diocese requirements, and we all understand what 'stranger danger' means! Though you may feel comfortable being on campus, some of us may not know who you are. All visitors must come to the office and check in with us before coming on campus. We appreciate your cooperation.

School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!
Fever
|
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
|
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
|
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
|
Vomiting/Diarrhea |
A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. |
Strep Throat
|
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
|
Lice
|
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
|
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
|
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
|
The 24 hour test
|
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Fever 100+
- Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
- Unusual rash (see Dr.)
- A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
|
|
Reminder: Children may not keep medication of any kind with them during the school day.
See 'Medications at School' policy below.
|
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
Students are prohibited from having medication of any kind with them during the school day or from bringing into the classroom. If your child requires medication to be administered, please stop by the school office to complete the
Authorization to Administer Medication Release Form.
ALL medications must be in original packaging, with prescription attached, and/or dosage instructions on the package.
We will not administer Allergy medication at school. Allergy medications should be taken at home prior to coming to school.
|
SCHOOL DAY PARKING
SR parents may NOT park in the CN parking lots during school hours, 7am-2pm. St. Rose has only a few designated VISITOR parking spaces.
Overflow parking is available at Trione soccer fields across the street and you can walk in.
Do not leave your car unattended in the traffic circle between 7:30am-8:30am AND 2:30pm - 3:30pm. This is a drop-off & pick-up zone during these hours.
St. Rose Faculty / Staff parking lot is reserved for teachers and staff only.
Please do not park in a numbered space between 7am-2pm.
(This is the lot on the left side of SR near pre-school)
Parking in a RED zone (designated FIRE LANE) is prohibited by the Fire Marshall.
