Grace: It's Our Way of Life
As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly; Study the scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today; Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of  Christ. Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome because we are only here by Grace.
Where have you welcomed,  worshiped, studied or served?

Grace Pilgrimage - a tradition since 1998
by Donna Olendorf,
Director of Children & Youth Formation

From the earliest days of the Church until today, Christians have made pilgrimage a part of their faith. And, in 1998, having adopted a curriculum that holds pilgrimage as its central feature, Grace youth also embraced this tradition, traveling to distant lands in search of God and their own identity.  Those who have made such a journey describe it as a life-changing experience. Being in new environments with people you don't know well asks you to trust in something larger than yourself.  It makes you grow. "Pilgrimage is both a looking in and a looking out," said Barb Johnson, who co-led the 2010 trip to Yosemite. Read on to discover the blessings that youth pilgrimage has brought to Grace:

Glendalough, Ireland (1998) under the leadership of Bill & Penny Pierce and Jay & Jody Ferry
The first Grace pilgrims traveled to the Center for Celtic Spirituality in Glendalough, Ireland, in the summer of 1998. "We had adopted the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) youth program and were told to take a pilgrimage," recalled J2A leader Bill Pierce, click here to continue reading...

Healing offered this weekend
Sat. 5pm and Sun. 10am
Prayers for healing will be offered at the columbarium during holy communion on Saturday, November 4 and at the  10 am service on Sunday, November 5.  Through the power of the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we will anoint with oil and lay on hands beseeching our Lord Jesus Christ to fill you with His presence, that you may know the healing power and presence of His love.

Music at 10
Joyful Noise will be singing our communion anthem in Latin.   Here is an English translation:

May the Bread of Angels become bread for mankind;
The Bread of Heaven gives end to earthly forms.
Oh, marvelous sacrament!
The body of the Lord will nourish the poor, the servile, and the humble.

Fireside Chats with Kathryn
Would you host a small gathering to help Kathryn get to know us better?  You may host in your home or at church, food optional (potlucks work well), coffee or tea (or some other refreshment) recommended.  The chats will take between one and two hours.  Kathryn suggests that in addition to her, you include at least one person or couple that you do not know well, as well as folks you may already know.  We often are surprised to learn something new about someone we know well!  Limiting groups to six people or less is ideal.  If you are willing to host a Fireside Chat (no fireplace required), please contact Kathryn or the office.  Thank you!

From the Vestry
In order to provide the best possible welcome to those among us with peanut allergies, we are beginning to work to make our food offerings at Grace peanut-free.  If you are planning to bring food, especially for coffee hour, please choose anything that does not have peanuts in it in any form.  Thank you in advance for helping us with this!

Help Charles Miller Celebrate his 65th birthday!
Many of you know Charles, son of Bob (deceased) and Carmen Miller, and long time attendee at the 10am service.  Charles is a special guy who will celebrate this milestone birthday this week.  Please sign the birthday card for Charles, located on the table in the Commons, and then plan to join Charles for cake on Nov. 19th after the 10am service.

A Grateful Harvest
There is still time to submit your pledge
During this "season of plenty", when local farms are reaping their bounty, we ask you to consider the many gifts for which you're thankful.  The gifts that you may commit to sharing in support of Grace and our ongoing efforts to bring God's message and good graces to our church community and community at large.  With your help, it truly will be A Grateful Harvest - one in which we can all share and celebrate!  If you missed Commitment Weekend, there is still time to submit your pledge.  Just drop it by the office, or put it into the mail.  Stewardship and pledge information is available on the table in the Commons.

LOVE TO SING?
JOIN CHANCEL CHOIR SHORT TERM
As we have been searching through old pictures of Grace's 150 years, we have found some great old choir pictures.  What is most amazing is the size of these choirs - Grace has such a history of great choral music! Now is the time for us to recapture some of that glory and enlarge our Chancel Choir.

With special services occurring in the next few months (including a visit from the Bishop in December!) it would be wonderful to double the size of our current choir. Perhaps now is the time for you to consider stepping into this ministry for a short period of time. Music reading skills are not required, just a love of singing and praising God through music. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30. If you are interested, talk with any choir member, or Kathy Will, Music and Worship Coordinator.

STAG Men's Dinner Nov. 13 at 6pm
As always, we will begin with fellowship followed by Evening Prayer and then a wonderful dinner prepared by Bill Pierce and his crew. Bring a friend for fun and fellowship!

Buy a wreath, support a pilgrim
Place your order Nov. 1 - Dec. 3
Now is the time to plan your holiday decorating, and J2A (our high school youth group) is selling Christmas wreaths again this year.  This perennial favorite is a great way to support our youth as they raise funds for their pilgrimage, and also to enjoy a fresh green wreath decorated with a festive red bow, just in time for the Christmas season.  The cost is $35 for each 24" wreath. Orders can be placed with any youth group member from Nov 1 - Dec. 3, and wreaths will be delivered to the church on December 10. Thank you for supporting our youth.

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
