Dear Saints,

We all have so much to be thankful for! Spend some extra time this month to really reflect on the ways that God has blessed you and your family! Don't forget that there is no school this Friday, November 10, in observance of Veteran's Day.

In HIS Love,
Mrs. Yakinian

University of Houston Extends Deadlines!
Sometimes there just isn't enough time to get everything done. With the various natural disasters that have been happening around the country, now is one of those times; so the University of Houston has pushed back their scholarship priority deadline for all students!

They feel that students deserve to have the time they need to complete their University of Houston application and have the best shot at receiving scholarship offers. That's why they've decided to push back their scholarship priority deadline from November 15, 2017, to January 3, 2018.

Here's what that means:
  • Students who complete their application (including an official transcript and test scores) by 5 p.m. (CST) on Jan. 3 will be automatically considered for the Academic Excellence Scholarship , which is our primary merit scholarship program.
  • Students interested in applying for the Tier One Scholarship also have until Jan. 3 to complete that application. The Tier One Invitational, which was originally scheduled for Jan. 13, 2018, will be rescheduled. Updated information, as it's available, will be posted on the   Tier One website.
  • They also have a number of endowed scholarships , which students can apply for through myUH . Applications for these scholarships will be open from mid-November to mid-February.
Learning Success Program
Self-advocacy is learning to speak up for yourself about what you need not only in an academic environment, but in a social environment.  Many students struggle with self-advocacy, but it is one of the most important life skills students with learning disabilities need to learn before moving onto college and career.  For more information on the importance of self-advocacy click here to read an article written by Andrew Lee for Understood.org.
Tip of The Week
Invite your child's friends for dinner. It helps to meet kids that your child is hanging out with. It shows you're making an effort to get to know their friends. When kids see how their friends act with their parents, they can get a better sense of those friends.
