A Message From Mr. Stoops

Our fifth annual Servathon was a tremendous success! Students at every grade level had a direct impact in making our community a better place by their service. Through Servathon and other opportunities to help others throughout the year, I hope students understand the importance of service to others, and make it a regular part of their lives. I greatly appreciate the numerous volunteers who assisted in classrooms and went out into the community with our students. Additionally, thank you to Megan Reichard and her team of volunteers who work very hard in organizing this large event and the teachers for executing.

Friday is the last day to return Servathon donation flyers to be included in the homeroom competition. Any student turning in a flyer is permitted to be out of uniform on Tuesday, October 17. The homeroom returning the most flyers will also receive a pizza party!

God Bless,
Corey

Guardian Angels hosts an Author Visit on October 12th.
Grades K-3 will be attending the "Author Visit."
From the beloved author and illustrator of  If I Could Keep You Little... and  I Love You So... comes a new uplifting and timely book that helps children celebrate bravery - in all of its various forms.  Be Brave Little One ( August 2017) is sure to become a new favorite from Marianne Richmond, who has sold over 2.5 million books. An order form is attached.
Marianne is a wonderful presenter and has created a program around  Be Brave Little One that emphasizes not only the importance of bravery, but the fact that bravery can take many different forms.  Most of us, kids included, often equate bravery with the big, outward choices like starting a new school, standing up for someone, or climbing a big mountain. But courage is the small and quiet actions, too. It can be choosing to quit an activity or sport, going home at a sleepover, or choosing to keep going through a challenging situation. This presentation will make children see that courage takes all forms, and that sometimes fear and bravery can go hand in hand when you are living life with courage.
Clothing Drive

We are conducting a clothing drive for Mission Sunday (weekend of Oct. 21-Oct. 22). This greatly benefits our missions in Appalachia and South Dakota.  Collection of gently used clothing (infants-adults) will begin Monday, October 9 and conclude on Wednesday, October 18. The families are in desperate need of infant and toddler clothing. But all donations are welcome. Clean out your summer clothing as we transition to fall. Pass on the word to family and friends.  Please send your donated items to Room 1, Mrs. Sarky's classroom.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity.

Fall Soup & Speaker Series

All parishioners are invited to join our Fall Soup and Speaker Series. The next event is Monday, October 16th. Soup will be served at 6:00pm in the undercroft; the presentation will follow. Fr. Beseau, assistant professor of Moral Theology at the Athenaeum, will offer a diagnosis of the current state of faith and belief and provide some principles and courses of
action for faithful Catholics in these times. The discussion includes a look at the continued drop in Mass attendance and why fewer people believe in God. A flyer is attached.
Fathers Team

Guardian Angles Fathers Team topic for Friday, October 6 - 10 Civil Discourse

We live in a time and culture in which Civil Discourse is probably at its lowest. Ethnic and racial groups use racial slurs against each other ("All lives matter!"). Republicans and Democrats say hateful words about each other. Christians and non-Christians unfortunately do the same. This rancor will not improve, unless I first become aware of my own attitudes and language, and make conscious choices to respect the people I interact with even when I strongly disagree with some of their ideas or beliefs. Remember: People are more willing to listen to me when I am willing to listen respectfully to them.

Through group discussion and shared experience, this group of dedicated GA Fathers striving all to be better Catholics, Husbands and Fathers will take up these questions from 6:05am - 6:55am Friday in Meeting room B (the undercroft next to school cafeteria). The group meets weekly. You can learn more on the  parish website.

A beautiful sunrise, hot coffee and meaningful conversation are promised to all who can attend.
