Paul Krugman was greatly missed but Dan Barber stunned a sold-out crowd with his funny, insightful, and thoughtful reflections on the future of food and farming. 

The delicious brunch was catered by Peter Platt of The Old Inn on the Green and The Southfield Store. 

Guests received a copy of the book Letters to a Young Farmer: On Food, Farming and Our Future and the event was co-sponsored by Berkshire Agricultural Ventures, Elisa Spungen Bildner and Rob Bildner, Laurily Epstein, Harold Grinspoon and Diane Troderman, and Liz and Jerry Hellman.

Temperatures are starting to leave a morning chill in the air but the farmers markets are full of summer bounty.

You can spend the whole day enjoying delicious food, doing your grocery shopping, visiting with friends, discovering delicacies, and building community.

Agriculture, specifically industrial agriculture, is often portrayed as a villan in the saga of climate change. There is a new way of thinking about carbon as it relates to agiclutural practices and soil conservation. Even better, in conjunction with a reduction in emissions, there is a chance that "carbon farming" can stabilize the changing climate.

If you haven't seen Forgotten Farms, make sure to get to the Great Barrington Mason Library on Saturday, September 9. The documentary tells the story of farmers largely left out of the local food movement - dairy farmers.

This program is free, open to the public, and is followed by a "talkback" with the filmakers and a dairy farmer.

North Plain Farm has settled into their new space and "after one season of careful rotational grazing, the diversity of pasture grasses is coming back where invasive weeds were taking over. There are butterflies and bees everywhere."
