Jonathan Burton's young artist masterclass

This summer, Opera Steamboat welcomed 35 Youn g Artists to our Opera Artist Institute residency program. The 3 week intensive included coaching from world-class instructors and performers and featured 4 public masterclasses.

Featured productions included the concert version of Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and the Steamboat Christian Center. Opera Steamboat was proud to debut opera superstars Alexandra Lobianco, Jonathan Burton and Thomas Sitzler for the first time in Northwest Colorado.

Opening night of The Enchanted Pig at Perry Mansfield's Julie Harris Theater  saw a sold out crowd as families delighted at the fairy tale opera performed by our young artists. While  G.F. Handel's Alcina transformed the theater into a supernatural island of sorcery.

The summer would not be complete without our free concert series held at the Library, Senior Center and Methodist Church featuring arias and duets from beloved and timeless operas.
Specialized Vocal Workshops

In 2015, Opera Steamboat began providing vocal workshops for special needs clients in partnership with Horizons Specialized Services and the Yampa Valley Autism Program.

This summer, through community grant funding from the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club, Opera Steamboat was able to continue our vocal workshop program.

On July 24th to 28th, in partnership with vocal therapist and instructor Dr. Dan Comstock, we held 7 workshop sessions with clients and caregivers from the Yampa Valley Autism Program, the Parkinson's Support Group as well as both Steamboat and Craig's Horizon ' s communities.

Dr. Comstock is an accomplished vocal therapist and instructor and through his program provides educational and therapeutic coaching using the voice.

Workshops teach vocal/musical skills through songs. Through this participants learn the fundamentals and elements of
speech, singing, rhythm and movement.

Participants gain not only skills in vocal performance, but also increased self-confidence, mindfulness and competence in day to day activities beyond the workshops.
