As Thanksgiving and the holiday season approaches, I wanted to call attention to two ways our school community can help others who are in need. We are seeking food donations for the Gray House and monetary donations for the hurricane victims. It is easy to forget the devastation that occurred if we do not see pictures every day but there are so many people who still need our help.  Please consider a donation to either cause if you are able.  It can be as simple as a canned good.

I wanted to thank all the parents and guardians who attended our parent/teacher conferences this week.  It is always tricky to schedule everyone and we appreciate parents arriving at their assigned times. I hope you found them to be beneficial and used the opportunity to have a good exchange between yourself and your child's teacher.

I hope everyone has a nice long weekend!

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Two Giving Opportunities
Let us share what we have  with those who are in need.

# 1 Thanksgving Food Drive

All of us at St. Michael's Academy are joining  together to show our gratitude to God for all that we have by sharing our gifts with those in need.
  • Our canned good collection will begin on November 6th and will end on November 17, 2017.
  •  Our donations will benefit the Gray House.
  • All non-perishable items are appreciated.  Please check expiration dates.
Thank you for your care for others.

# 2 - Hurricane Relief Fundraiser

The student council is sponsoring a fundraiser to help Hurricane Sur vivors in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Florida, and other islands.

The goal is to raise $1,000 to send to Catholic Charities. They will distribute the money to places in the greatest need. We are asking for all families to make a monetary contribution of at least $2.00 so that we can meet this goal. These places were hit hard by the recent hurricanes and as a way of showing appreciation for the good things that God has given to us, we should be generous to those in need. Thank you very much!

 Veteran's Day

St. Michael's Academy sends its thanks to the military personnel from Westover Air Force Base who visited our school today.  You could hear a pin drop in the classrooms as the students listened and learned about various aspects of their duties and fields.

Second Grade Happenings

Our month of November began with a school-wide All Saints Day Mass. Each class presented a different saint in the parade of saints at the beginning of Mass. The second graders presented St. Bernadette and St. Tarcisius . At the start of each school day in November, the students learn a bit about the lives of these saints. As Fr. Shea told us at Mass, we are all in the communion of saints and children of God.

In religion class, we are studying the Ten Commandments and how we can follow God's laws in our daily lives. The students reflect on the commandments as they prepare to receive the sacraments of Penance and Reconciliation.

Human emotions have been the topic of our health classes. The students have been learning about different emotions and how people express them.

In math class we have been busy learning about 2-digit numbers, place value, before and after a number, and greater than and less than. All of this will prepare the students for addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers.

And a big thanks to MSgt Collins who visited the second graders to talk about his job in the Air Force. His video of an F15 fighter jet refueling in the sky was incredible! The students asked some very good questions and really enjoyed his visit!

Christmas Concert

The Christmas Pageant Is Coming!

It's hard to believe that Christmas is around the corner!  And with Christmas comes our annual Christmas Pageant. Mark your calendars for December 12th and 13th and keep the 14th open for a snow day just in case.  The students have started to rehearse and all songs can be found herePlease feel free to have your child practice at home - you can never sing too much!

And speaking of the Christmas Pageant, Mrs. Duplessis is looking for someone who can  play on  Wednesday  night - either trombone, baritone, or tenor sax, preferably.  It would be great if they're available for the rehearsal  on Monday  during the day, as well.  Anyone interested, please contact Mrs. Duplessis at ext. 1130.

Blizzard Bags

Blizzard Bags Are Coming!
Blizzard Bags - What Are They?

  • "A Blizzard Bag" is a snow day where...
    • You do your school work at home
    • Use your computer or books, pencils, pens, and paper
  • Blizzard Bag assignments are generated by your child's teacher(s) as a continuation, review, or extension of the academic activities being covered in the classroom during the school year. All lessons are student centered and support the learning we do each day.

THE BEST PART - NO SNOW DAYS TO MAKE UP
AT THE END OF THE YEAR!

Get Your Flu Shot!

Keep your family healthy this fall/winter.

Please consider getting your flu shot. It's not too late. The CDC recommends an annual flu vaccine for all individuals ages 6 months and older. It takes about two weeks to have full effect after the injection, so if you haven't done so already, consider getting your flu shot as soon as possible! The flu shot along with a healthy diet, good sleep, and frequent hand washing will help us all to stay healthy during these colder months!

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions:

And we pray in a special way for our recently departed:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
