Principal's Message

Dear Murwood Families,

On Wednesday, our favorite presenter from Soul Shoppe, Jared, helped students to activate their parasympathetic nervous system by using a number of calming breathing strategies. These strategies help students develop self awareness and self management.  Click this link to practice the breathing techniques at home.  Practicing when you're calm helps to have those skills at the ready when fiery feelings come up!

Now that we have settled in to October, my hope is that a few volunteers will come forward to help with our daily Walking Club activity.  Walking Club keeps kids engaged in a positive activity and is such a healthy way to spend recess.  We find when have adults on campus marking laps and handing out rewards, we have far fewer incidents on the playground.  Please help us keep this positive program going.  It would only require 45 minute commitment once a week!

Reminders

NO SCHOOL on Monday, 9th October due to Staff Development Day.

Parking Lot Safety:
  • Please pull as far forward along the yellow line as possible.
  • Do not cut in (or out) of the line, or use the drive-thru lane to drop off and pick up your child
  • Child(ren) should only exit from the passenger side of the car...the sidewalk is far safer than children standing & walking on the driver's side where other cars may be passing by.
  • Do not get out of your car in the drop-off lane.  We have staff & safety patrol outside to assist your child(ren).  If you do need to get out of the car, please use the parking spaces provided to the left as you enter the parking lot.
  • Do not drive with distractions...cell phones and other potential distractions should be tucked away, and all eyes should be on the students, parents, and other cars in the parking lot.
  • Finally, we ask that you slow down and observe the posted speed limits.
Please be patient and keep in mind that we are all just trying to get through the carpool with the same goal...getting our children safely to school.  Thank you!
From the PTA President

October is here!  Fall is my favorite time of year so much to look forward to....The Book Fair, Pumpkin Carving Contest and last but not least the Halloween Carnival!!  It is such an exciting month here at Murwood.  More information on how to get involved will be in the Enews.  We need help to make these events a success!!

We still need volunteers for Walking Club.  It's such a great way to come out and meet all the amazing children here at Murwood.  Please contact Dawn Greenaway at [email protected] to learn more about this awesome volunteer opportunity.

Hold the date for our next PTA Meeting on Tuesday, October 17th.  Our Kindergarten teachers will be presenting.

Thank you second through fifth graders for returning your digital citizenship contracts. We are very fortunate to have a variety of digital devices for student use at Murwood and we do our best to help students get the most out of the internet while protecting them from the online world's risks and downsides. At Murwood we believe this means preparing our students to:Think critically, Protect themselves, Get smart about sharing. Be kind and respectful and Ask for help.

This year our efforts will include introducing our fourth and fifth graders to Be Internet Awesome, a multifaceted program designed to teach kids the skills they need to be safe and smart online. One of the resources our students are enjoying is Interland, a playful browser-based game that makes learning about digital safety interactive and fun. This program was developed by Google in partnership with the educators and online safety experts at iKeepSafe.org.  You can learn more about this program at....https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/   Another great resource for parents and kids is https://www.commonsensemedia.org

Walking Club

We need volunteers to mark cards as the students walk laps around the track.  The students can earn rewards as they meet some milestones.   This program started 12 years ago and it is one of the children's favorite programs here at Murwood.    If you are interested and can help out, please let us know.    Please contact Dawn Greenaway at [email protected].
It's Almost Book Fair Time Again!

Howdy! Our Wild West Book Fair is on the horizon!  The Wild West Book Fair will begin on Monday, October 23 and run through the end of the Fall Festival on Saturday, October 28 from 11 AM-3 PM. We will be open everyday at lunch and again after school from 2-4 PM.  Please check out the link and volunteer!   We love to see happy readers with new books in their hands.

WCEF has begun a strategic planning process to determine how to best support all K-12 students from their time in the Walnut Creek School District through Las Lomas High School.  This survey is one part of the process to engaging you, our community, in understanding the programs that are most valuable this community and our students.

Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey and look for more information about our planning process as we work together on behalf of all our children.
