Here is an update from our Treasurer, Kevin Hunt, and a message from our Stewardship Chair, Sarah Everdell:

"Ingathering will occur this Sunday, and we have already had a wonderful response to our 2018 St. Francis Stewardship Campaign.

Approximately 60% of the congregation has returned pledge cards.This includes 22 increased pledges and 6 new pledges.

 Our ability to continue to respond to the needs of our church and our community depends on all of us. We are a church family for whom "strength and renewal" has significant meaning. We truly do make a difference in providing both a place of spiritual renewal and a mission of outreach to our neighbors. 

Thank you sincerely for giving with love and generosity."

Following Coffee Hour...

Timothy J.
Seeley, Head of School at GSA will be joining us on Sunday. 

After coffee hour he will be sharing with us what he has discovered regarding the problem of food insecurity among the GSA students as well as the things GSA is doing to have an impact on the problem.

 It will be a very informal  presentation with the opportunity for us to ask questions and try to become informed regarding the problems of food insecurity in our community as a step in our figuring out how best to approach this hidden but pervasive problem.

Welcoming our guests from The Orono Mosque to St. Francis Church!
From the Mosque in Orono, Maine

St. Francis Church, along with The Congregational Church of Blue Hill, will host a gathering of our friends from The Orono Mosque this coming Saturday, October 7 from Noon to 2:30.

The event, including a good lunch, will be at St. Francis Church with fun for the children as well as congenial conversation with all. A number of children are expected (thank you, Andrew Chung and the children of St. Francis!)

Everyone is welcome to come (bring a dish if you can) and enjoy this special time with our neighbors.

Signup sheets are on the tables. Everyone's help will be much appreciated.

 
St. Francis is taking on a new
"all church" Outreach Project in conjunction with The Blue Hill Food Pantry. Everyone is invited to participate when you are out and about and can pick up a box of diapers.

Why a Diaper Bank?

Fast Facts from the National Diaper Bank:

  • 5.2 million  children in the U.S. aged three or
    younger live in poor or low-income families.
  • 1 in 3  American families reports experiencing diaper need.
  • Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps.

  • Disposable diapers cost $70 to $80 per month  per baby.
  • No state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers.
  • Without transportation, buying diapers at a convenience store rather than a large "big box" store can significantly increase the monthly cost of diapers.
  • Infants require up to 12 diapers per day.
Diapers of all sizes  (cloth or disposable) are welcome any Sunday and will be delivered to the food pantry by members of the Outreach Committee.
