October 2017

The statement “It takes a village” so accurately reflects what is necessary to accomplish our vision to preserve the planet for our grandchildren and future generations. Elders Climate Action partners with over sixty organizations with similar missions. There is no one global solution to climate change. Each of us alone cannot solve this crisis but working together and supporting one another only amplifies the message, the voice, and the power! We will continue to expand our collaborations with other groups to increase the power of elders as we confront climate change. This year we will focus on strengthening our ties with partner organizations and increasing collaborations.

The following announcement features the collaboration between Citizens' Climate Lobby and Elders Climate Action--the upcoming Western Region Pre-Conference in Phoenix, coordinated by ECA member Hazel Chandler.

“A Day in the Life” of NorCal ECA Member Katherine Da Silva Jain
Recently I scolded myself for not having ECA literature to give to my hiking group. The next Saturday I printed up information, donned my ECA T shirt and headed for a gathering of about 19 folks. I sang the Ciao Bella song “Do it Now!”, which ECA had performed as Flash Mobs at both of our DC conferences. It was well received and several showed interest in ECA. I left literature and went to an Eco Festival at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists. I sang the song again and a number of people spoke to me afterward and were interested in the literature. Next I went to the Unitarian Universalist Church for a great concert by hugely creative, progressive composer/songster Roy Zimmerman. I’d written to Roy about “Do It Now” and he suggested we put it on Youtube to get the word out. I enjoyed inspiring, very funny music and also made contact with the chair of the church’s Social Justice Committee, who was attracted by the shirt!
As you know, ECA loves collaborations with kids!
We recently received an email from Jenna Clark, youth advocate for Helping Hands 4 Kids, who thanked us for our “With Your Grandchildren” section of our website. She wanted us to know that it’s been a big help in their youth program, the purpose of which is to educate children on environmental issues and teach proper recycling methods. They wanted to give back to us by recommending another website the kids found filled with information, games and crafts on recycling. Jenna wants to show the children that ECA has added the resource to our list and to acknowledge that they are helping the members of Elders Climate Action to live a greener lifestyle. They will know they contributed positively to the environment. They wish all to have a happier and greener planet! We thank you, Jenna, for your work with youth and for reaching out to ECA!
We're kicking off our Year-end Giving Campaign. We hope you will consider giving in 2017!

A Heartfelt Thank You to All Those Who Support the Important Work of ECA!
I like to help with what I consider to be a worthy cause. While I don’t feel that I can do anything significant about climate change as one person, I like being part of this larger body of people who are addressing this very serious challenge of our time. Collectively we can make a difference! Thank you Elders Climate Action for your important work!

Mark Your Calendars!
Elders Climate Action will be Participating in
GivingTuesday, November 28th
Elders Climate Action is excited to announce that we will be participating in GivingTuesday! Annual rituals, like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. are days dedicated to getting the best deals on consumer goods. On the flip side, GivingTuesday is a day dedicated to doing good and giving back. Together, people are creating a new ritual for our annual calendar, GivingTuesday is a reminder of the “reason for the season.” Every act of generosity counts, and each means even more when we give together. Together, millions of people demonstrate our common capacity to give on GivingTuesday. We hope you will consider a gift to Elders Climate Action on GivingTuesday, November 28th.
