This Week in the World of Neighborhood Church YRE!

Hello Families!

I am writing this note from Denver where I am just finishing up the Liberal Religious Educators Association Fall Conference. It has been an eventful six days of learning and network building. I will be returning to you full of ideas and motivation to enrich our program.

We will be creating Yule Logs on Saturday, December 2nd. Your donations of fresh seed pods, holly greenery,  berries, pine branches and small pine cones, Christmas tree trimmings and, of course, logs are greatly appreciated. Please bring your donations to church anytime between now and then.

This week, our third through fifth graders will be making Stone Soup. If you have a child in that age group, please be sure to check below for details on what to bring. Thanks!

See you at church!
Matt

Chalice Children
 "My Shadow"

Play with one's shadow has been identified as one of 12 main types of experiences connected with natural religious development in young children. Playing with our shadow is an experience that awakens wonder and the thrill of discovery. Shadows also bring mystery into our world-but, darkness and shadows can be frightening sometimes. We will learn that sharing our fears with friends can help us feel less afraid.
K-2 Spirit Play
"My Many Colored Days"

Using a spectrum of vibrant colors and a menagerie of animals, this classic story from Dr. Seuss creates a wonderful way for children to learn to identify the range of human moods and emotions.  We will follow this story with snacks and fellowship.

3rd-5th
Spirit of Adventure
      "Stone Soup Sunday"

We will make Stone Soup and read the classic tale.  Please bring one or more of the following, and email Kat to let her know what you're bringing:
Onions,
Carrots or any other Root Veggies,
Veggie Broth,
Soup Herbs,
Pasta,
Canned Beans,
Crackers.
Middle School
Neighboring Faiths
"Taoism"

Neighboring Faiths teacher, C Reed  will talk to the kids about  her experience with Taoism.
8th Grade OWL
"Sexual Orientation"

This workshop explores all sexual orientations but emphasizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ) orientations due to the continuing existence of heterosexism (the assumption that everyone is or should be heterosexual), homophobia (bias against LGBQ people), and biphobia (aversion toward bisexuality and bisexual people). The class will gain knowledge and skills and explore attitudes that affirm the dignity and worth of people of all sexual orientations.

9th Grade R.O. P.
"Your God Project"

Today, the 9th graders will start a discussion on the nature of the divine, recognize that there are stages of faith development, and discover how Unitarian Universalism encompasses many, but not all, views of the sacred,
