Celebrating Living Wage Week in Hamilton Nov. 5-11/17
Workforce Planning Hamilton is a proud supporter of the Living Wage Campaign for Hamilton!
Join us as we celebrate Living Wage week from November 5th to 11th. During this time we celebrate the local employers, such as Cake+Loaf Bakery; Zelus Material Handling Inc.; and the Mustard Seed Co-op who have become Living Wage champions by signing the Living Wage declaration.
It is also time to reflect on the fact that there are still many workers who work full time hours and cannot support themselves and their families.
As Tom Cooper of the Ontario Living Wage Network explains, "Right now there are almost 30,000 people who work every day but aren't earning enough at their jobs to pull themselves or families out of poverty, they're Hamilton's working poor."
Paying a Living Wage, which in Hamilton is calculated to be $15. 85 per hour, can address this inequity.
The Hamilton Small Business Enterprise Centre is participating in the Start-up Crawl again this year by having a trade show on Thursday, November 16th from 9am-11:30am at Hamilton City Hall.
This is a great opportunity to meet start-ups and existing businesses from the Hamilton Community.

If you are an employment counsellor and work with people 50+ don't miss the chance for a free professional development event taking place on Nov. 27th at the Staircase Theatre from 1 pm. to 3:30.
The event releases the results of a study funded by the Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling (CERIC) and includes viewing a documentary film that examines career shift, transition and occupational change in later life. The film viewing is followed by discussion on how to use a companion guide with your clients.
