The ROE's 4th Annual Student
Photography Contest Begins!
Back by popular demand, high school students are submitting their photography to make the ROE's top 10 photos of the week! The contest kicked off this week with Hampshire High School chosen for their featured photo on  Kane County Connects . Congratulations to Kourtney Frisone and her photo "Photocubism"!

This is a friendly competition focused on highlighting the academic arts in Kane County. The ROE receives positive feedback every year from teachers and parents noting their students' confidence and efforts improve as a result of this initiative. Want to be a part of this contest? New photography classes are welcome to join anytime during the 10 week contest. Contact Mike Ademe at mademe@kaneroe.org for more information on the submission schedule and guidelines.

Digital Threat Assessment Training On October 16th & 17th
Successful Threat and Risk Assessments can only occur if we have a solid understanding of all data needed to appropriately assess an individual’s potential for violence. The ROE is offering two separate full day trainings for School Administrators, Law Enforcement, and Frontline Community Agencies. One is October 16th and another is October 17th.

Presenters Needed for Institute Day 2018!
Planning for Institute Day 2018 is underway and the ROE is looking for teachers to present during breakout sessions. If you would like to share your expertise with fellow educators, please fill out this proposal form. Proposals can be submitted through November 17th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ROE.

The Progress Report: Blended Learning & Social Media
Classrooms are evolving each year and staying up to date with the latest best practices can be challenging. That's what The Progress Report is here for! The two latest posts deal with keeping up with best practices. The first post is focused on what creating a blended learning environment is like, and the other is on using social media in the classroom

The Progress Report is a collaborative discussion space for professional learning. Each post is written by Katie Algrim, the ROE's Director of Innovative Professional Learning. If there are any topics that you would like to see a post on, please contact Katie Algrim.

Help The Kane County Sheriff's Office Celebrate Red Ribbon Week on October 23rd - 31st
Red Ribbon Week is an initiative by the National Family Partnership (NFP) to present a unified vision and visible front toward the creation of a drug free community. The Kane County Sheriff's Office is encouraging schools to get involved. Students in fifth and sixth grade can express their creative side by making a Red Ribbon Week work of art themed around a drug-free lifestyle, and submitting them to the Sheriff's Office the week of October 16th. The Sheriff's Office will also coordinate with schools that would like to schedule a presentation during Red Ribbon Week.

2017-2018 Social Science Standards
Are you a Social Sciences teacher? The State of Illinois has new Social Science Standards that must be implemented in the 2017-2018 school year. The ROE & Illinois Online Academy are offering a self-paced, online course designed to help teachers integrate the new standards into their classroom.

Stressed About College Applications & the FAFSA?
Each school year, millions of students are applying for college, but with all the paperwork involved, the process can seem overwhelming. The ROE and GFRV Operation Snowball are offering an FREE workshop on October 19th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm about College Applications and the FAFSA.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to apply for college and submit their FAFSA in a group setting with volunteers from local schools and community organizations on hand to assist students and parents as they work on their applications.
