Starting a new job feels very much like the first day of school. The excitement is particularly heightened when it's been more than 24 years since my last first day!

Preparing to join Crayons to Computers had me reflecting on first days of school from my childhood. I remember the excitement of new "stuff" - pristine notebooks and binders, crayons with perfect points, freshly sharpened pencils, unspoiled pink erasers. These new things made me excited about the first day of school. More importantly, I had the tools to enable me to succeed.

Today, in our community, way too many children do not have the tools they need to succeed. Education is "the great equalizer" and is the best way to help children get out of poverty. But if children don't have the basic tools they need to do their homework and to learn and to succeed, the future doesn't look so bright. That's why Crayons to Computers is here - to color a brighter future for so many kids.

It is my pleasure and privilege to join the excellent team of staff, the dedicated board and the many committed volunteers who make Crayons to Computers work. In partnership with so many teachers in our region, we are dedicated to ensuring that children can get a good start in their education and in their life.

Over the coming weeks and months, I look forward to learning and to hearing from you. Share your thoughts, experiences and suggestions so that together we can continue this important work.

I can be reached by email or by calling 513-482-3290.

Teacher Spotlight #6

Arnice Smith, Librarian
Pleasant Hill Academy
This month, our teacher spotlight is  Arnice Smith, the school librarian at Pleasant Hill Academy. Arnice was tasked with rebuilding the library at Pleasant Hill Academy. This need was presented to us at Crayons To Computers and we, in turn, made a donation of gently used books to power the rebuild efforts of the school.

We are so fortunate to partner with incredibly talented educators like Arnice, who impart the value of reading and literacy on students and the community!
