Thoughts From Pastor Glen

What a great day! The 10th Anniversary of our building celebration was an emotional and powerful experience for me. Balloons, bright-colored table covers, food and pictures, pictures, pictures everywhere. The energy and sense of excitement during the morning worship service was a wonderful launching pad for that which was to come. Man, you could feel the electricity in the room. The band was great! The singing was extraordinary. For me, my soul was flooded with memories. Memories of events, people and activities that have shaped me into the person I am today. I had a second during the worship service when I reflected upon the dozens of babies I've baptized, the endless numbers of eyes I've looked into as I've blessed person after person and the countless hugs given and received. At times, I was overwhelmed with feelings of pride, but more so of thanksgiving of what God has allowed me to be part of the last 18 years. Wow....didn't the 10th Anniversary Task Force do an amazing job! Hats off to our leader Sue Irwin, but also to the rest of the task force members including Sandy Odmark, Don Knickerbocker, Jeanette Bailey, Cindy Bailey, Lafe Murray, Mary Murray, Dick Schultz, Barb Vogel, Ron Vogel, Art Zander, Crystal Zander, Rich Biesterfeld, Nancy Stark and Michael Stark. It was a great day! Here are a few photos from the event taken by our own Rich Biesterfeld. Click here to see more.

The weekend also included a couple of baptisms of Dallas Gilreath, the son of Jerome and Nicole Gilreath on Saturday night and Clara Elizabeth Lotson, the daughter of Justin and Katie Lotson on Sunday morning. Please keep these two little ones in your prayers as God uses their parents and our church community to make Christ known.

The Larson family said good-bye to a husband, father, grandfather and friend at the memorial service held on Saturday at Mountain View Funeral Home for Terrance Larson who died earlier in the week. I had a chance to give Terry Holy Communion just days before his death while in hospice care being surrounded by his wife Cathy and extended family. The Larson's worshipped on Saturday night (left side, three rows from the back). Please keep Cathy, family and friends in your prayers as they cling to the promises of the resurrection.

The Sunday Morning Worship times will change beginning on October 22nd! The 8:45 a.m. service will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 10:15 a.m. service will begin at 10:30 a.m. The purpose of the change is to help the parking situation and the exiting of the parking lot. Signal Butte Road has become increasingly more busy and Church Council looked at creating a second exit of our parking lot, but the expense to do so prevents us from doing anything with that project in the near future.

A Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday morning October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. for the election of the Call Committee Members to start the process of calling the next pastor to Spirit of Hope. This meeting will be short, so we will have it between the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. We will also use this time to explain some of the new financial obligations that the congregation will incur because of the process. It's my hope that we have a great turnout for this meeting.

Joe Tedrow completed the building of our new altar which matches many of the items that he has built for our worship space. The building of a new pulpit is still on the drawing board. A temporary pulpit/lectern will be used until our carpenters can create a new one. Thanks again, Joe!

Did you see our Narthex Floor? Duane Gilson and Steve Osterman burned some late night hours, cleaning and waxing the Narthex floor before our big celebration over the weekend. Volunteers like Duane & Steve are what being a church is all aboutThank you.....and thank you to all the many invisible members who generously share their time and talent. You all make a difference!

Peace & love,
Pastor Glen
