Opportunities to Attend the Disciplinary Board's
Required Trust Accounting CLE

Using interactive polling software and mock trust transactions, this course will instruct participants on and test their knowledge of the fundamentals of attorney trust accounts in New Mexico, including (a) the proper operation of such accounts; (b) identification of records that must be maintained; (c) best and prohibited practices for operating a trust account and accepting retainers; (d) recording trust transactions in general and client ledgers; and (e) reconciling trust account ledgers with bank statements. The course will take one hour and will include hands-on participation by attendees. Browse course dates.

2017 Election: Electronic Voting Procedures
Voting in the 2017 election for the State Bar of New Mexico Board of Bar Commissioners will close at noon on Nov. 30. View a summary of which Bar Commissioner Districts had open positions and the candidates running for those positions in the Bar Bulletin. The First and Sixth Bar Commissioner Districts have contested elections. A link to the electronic ballot and instructions was emailed to all members in those Districts. To provide an email address if one is not currently on file or to request a mailed ballot, contact Pam Zimmer.

Board of Bar Commissioners ATJ Appointments
The BBC will make two appointments to the NM Access to Justice Commission for three-year terms. The Commission is dedicated to expanding and improving civil legal assistance by increasing pro bono and other support to indigent people in New Mexico. Active status attorneys in New Mexico wishing to serve on the Commission should send a letter of interest and brief resume by Nov. 17  to Kris Becker or fax to 505-828-3765.

Jay D. Rosenblum is the 2017 Business Lawyer of the Year
Join the Business Law Section in honoring Jay D. Rosenblum at a reception following the Business Law Institute at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 15, at the State Bar Center. Solo and Small Firm Section Fall Speaker Series Line-up
The Solo and Small Firm Section's monthly luncheon presentations on unique law-related subjects continue on Nov. 21, with Eric Sirotkin, a local lawyer who has taken a new direction in the last decade, who has written books on international law including North Korea (four trips there) and forgiveness  commissions. Presentations take place from noon-1 p.m. at the State Bar Center. R.S.V.P.

First Judicial District Bar Association November Luncheon
Join FJDBA from noon-1 p.m., Nov. 20, at the Santa Fe Hilton. Chief Justice Judith Nakamura will discuss current issues in the New Mexico judiciary, including the 2018 legislative agenda, rule changes, and other matters affecting New Mexico's court system. R.S.V.P. with Mark Cox by Nov. 16.
