Send your photos to pio_department@ggusd.us to highlight your school or students in the e-newsletter.
Cook Cares
Cook Elementary School Lions were inspired by compassion for students in Houston, Texas whose school was devastated by flooding from Hurricane Harvey. So they went to their piggy banks to donate money and wrote notes of encouragement to send to the Mitchell Elementary School Bulldogs in Houston. Click here to read the full story.
Live from Los Amigos
Telemundo broadcast its Yarda 50 segment live from Los Amigos High School on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. The gym was packed with students who were full of school spirit. The segment helps celebrate high school football and puts a positive spotlight on high schools across Orange County and Los Angeles. Los Amigos Lobos were wonderful representatives of GGUSD! Way to go Lobos!
A Well-Deserved Recognition
Pacifica High School's dance team was honored during the City of Garden Grove council meeting last week for its national championship. Thanks to the city for recognizing these hardworking Mariners!
Carrillo Students Spread Peace
Carrillo Elementary School celebrated International Day of Peace last week during a school-wide assembly. Students are raising money for the Red Cross to help people impacted by recent hurricanes. The assembly also featured a relay with students carrying world flags, a performance of "Lean on Me," and a release of a five-foot painted world balloon.
Celebrating Our Translators
Members of GGUSD's Interpreter/Translator staff helped the Orange County Department of Education celebrate International Translation Day by attending the first-ever Interpreters and Translators Conference on September 29. GGUSD's Lead Vietnamese Translator Dung Tran (third from the left) was presented with the Multilingual Award of Distinction. Congratulations to Mr. Tran, the ARC Interpreter/Translators, and all GGUSD employees who help connect cultures through effective interpretation and translation.
GGUSD SBAC Results Show Growth

GGUSD students demonstrated significant growth and exceeded state averages at all grade levels in both math and English on the state’s Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments (SBAC) test. An impressive 67% of GGUSD students met or exceeded standards in English-Language Arts (ELA) in eleventh grade and 55% of third graders met or exceeded standards in math. Growth in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding state standards in math has surpassed the state and county average in all grade levels. In ELA, overall growth in the percentage of students meeting and exceeding standards also beat the county and state average. We know that our growth is a testament to the hard work of our teachers and staff.
