Please plan to attend our Congregational Meeting next Thursday! At Temple B'nai Chaim, there are two Congregational meetings each year, held in November and May. This is your opportunity to hear what's going on, ask questions and get to know one another. Please come participate in our community. We need a quorum to conduct the congregation's business! Fly in for a Superhero Shabbat, Friday, November 10th, at 6:30 pm
With great power, comes great responsibility! And, in this case, your responsibility is to bring all of your superpowers to TBC for a very special family Shabbat! On November 10th, we will ASSEMBLE and celebrate Shabbat like the superheroes that we are!
Join us at 6:30 pm (Pre-Neg at 6:00 pm) for our very first SUPERHERO SHABBAT where we will experience the prayers of Shabbat through the eyes of our favorite superheroes!
PS: Don't forget to protect your secret identity by COMING IN COSTUME! If you will be attending the Pre-Neg (pizza & veggies), please RSVP!

Book Fair, Judaica Sale, Sunday, November 19th
Want an easy way to get Hanukkah and other holiday gifts for your family and friends (or yourself!) which also helps support the religious school? On
Sunday November 19, come check out the Jewish Book Fair/Sisterhood Judaica sale in the old sanctuary.
It will be open from 9:30 am until 12:00 noon. The Book Fair will also take place on Wednesday and Thursday, November 15 and 16 from 4:20 pm to 6:00 pm.
There will be a wonderful selection of adult and children's books, including cookbooks, coloring books, best sellers, etc., etc., etc!!! Credit cards, cash or checks accepted! Judaica gifts include: jewelry, menorahs, mezuzahs, and so much more!

Thanksgiving Interfaith Service - Monday, November 20
This year's annual Thanksgiving service will be hosted at Long Ridge United Methodist Church, 201 Long Ridge Road in Danbury on Monday, November 20, at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to participate in an evening of fellowship. The service will be led by clergy of different denominations and religions. Music will be sung by a volunteer, interfaith choir.

Do a Mitzvah in Your Sleep!
We need volunteers to help at the Overflow Homeless Shelter in Danbury. Our first week of coverage is 12/25-12/31. Contact Peggy Zamore at

Shelter volunteers arrive at the First Congregational Church, Danbury at 9:00 pm and stay until 7:00 am. Each night we have 2 volunteers, usually one male and one female. We typically cover 3 weeks each season, which runs from mid-November to the end of March, weather dependent. All you need to bring is a sleeping bag/blanket and pillow. There is a good cot for volunteers to use.
Clients are signed in by regular shelter reps being sure each client has been screened at the regular shelter. Volunteers serve hot chocolate and snacks. There are usually plenty of snacks there but some volunteers bring fruit, e.g. clementines or apples. Coffee is set up and on a timer to be ready in the morning. Lights are out by 10:00 pm.
Clients are very respectful and very appreciative to have a warm place to spend the night! Wake up is at about 6:15 am to enable everyone to be ready to leave by 7:00 am. Volunteers serve coffee in the morning as everyone straightens up their area. Most are then on their way to breakfast served at Dorothy Day Hospitality House at 7:00 am. In the morning, one of the volunteers sends out an email reporting the night's events and the need for any supplies.
By participating in this mitzvah you are helping to provide a warm place for people to spend the night during the coldest time of the year. Without us supporting this project, two dozen people might be out on the street looking for a place to huddle for the night. Please help!

Our tradition tells us that an integrated Jewish life involves head, heart and hand - study, spirituality and social action.
Explore all of these on your terms, with your personal interests, through a new initiative called
Chai Mitzvah
.
You will participate in a learning group that meets every other month with a specially-designed curriculum that focuses on real life, relevant issues.
You will also choose an individual study topic that is personally interesting to you, adopt a new ritual or deepen an existing practice, and engage in a social action activity.
Then, at the end of this two-year program, you can celebrate your journey!

Share Your Simcha - Sponsor a Preneg, Oneg or Flowers!
A wonderful way of celebrating special simchas, such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, the birth of a child or grandchild, is sharing your nachas with the entire congregation by sponsoring the Shabbat Oneg, Preneg or Flowers for the Friday of your special week. No special occasion? You can still sponsor a Shabbat! It is traditional to light a memorial candle on the eve of the yahrzeit at home and to recite Kaddish when lighting the yahrzeit candle. It is also a custom to make donations in memory of loved ones around the time of yahrzeit.
