A Note on Stewardship 2018

Thank you from the Stewardship Team, the Vestry and the staff of St. Margaret's Church for your generous response in supporting our parish in the coming year!

The campaign has raised $829,986, which is 93% of our $890,000 goal, and helps St. Margaret's properly plan next year's budget.

If you forgot to pledge before the deadline or needed a little more time, you can still submit a pledge online by clicking HERE.

Thank you for your generous support of St. Margaret's!

Thanks and Giving 2018

On Sunday November 19th, churches from the Broadneck peninsula will gather together to package emergency dried meals through Outreach, Inc. These meals go to those suffering from hunger, often due to disasters, in our country and across the world. Our hope is to package 15,000 meals. This is a family-friendly event!  All ages are welcome. We will gather in the Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall located at 461 College Parkway, Arnold, MD.  We will package meals at 4 p.m. and conclude with a brief time of worship. This is an opportunity to give thanks to God for what we have and to give out of our abundance to those in need.

Thanksgiving Meal Donations

Thanksgiving angels are needed! Members of the parish once again are asked to provide holiday meals to needy neighbors. We have received names and addresses from Broadneck Elementary School and the AA County Dept. of Social Services of neighbors on the Broadneck Peninsula needing help purchasing their holiday dinner. Our list includes seniors and families with children. The Missions Commission will provide the turkeys, but we ask parishioners to provide the ingredients for the rest of the meal and deliver the food basket to the recipient a few days BEFORE Thanksgiving Day.  No cooking involved. Turkeys and baskets will be available for pick-up in the Parish Hall on Sunday, Nov. 19, or by separate arrangement. In advance, you will receive the name of your recipient and delivery instructions. To volunteer, contact Barbara Marder at scubaesc@aol.com or 410-518-9978.

Coming This Advent...

Family Advent Wreathmaking on Sunday, Nov. 26
Join us Sunday, November 26 for Advent Wreath Making during the Coffee Hour. Whether it's a long-time family tradition or a festive new one, keeping an Advent wreath is a perfect way to pause, reflect, and pray during what can be a hectic Advent season.  DONATIONS OF GREENS are necessary (and appreciated!) for this event. Please leave them at the Parish Hall front doors Saturday after Thanksgiving through Sunday morning before the 9 a.m. service.  While there will be pruning shears available to share during the event, bringing your own can be helpful. There will be a small fee to cover the cost of supplies.  To help set up and/or clean up, or offer a donation of greens (not necessary to sign up for a greens donation, but it will help with planning), text Laurie Tomko at  804-363-1432

Advent Lessons & Carols on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.
As we begin our spiritual preparation for the birth of Jesus at Christmas, join us for this traditional service sung by the choirs of St. Margaret's. Readings from Holy Scripture, seasonal hymns and choral anthems will prepare us for the promised coming of the Messiah.

RE:Thinking Advent with the Rev. Peter Mayer
The Rev. Peter will be leading an interactive discussion of three components to help us re-think what the Advent season can mean for all of us. The discussions will take place during coffeehour (10:20-11 a.m.) in the Fellowship Hall on Dec. 3, 10, & 17.

Advent Through the Psalms
The Rev. Rhetta Wiley will explore the tradition of praying the Psalms, first examining their composition and formation into the Psalter, then the range of Jewish and Christian interpretation, and finally discussing how to claim the psalms for ourselves and take our place in the ongoing community of psalmic prayer. The program will be the adult formation program for Faith & Fellowship Monday events at 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 4, 11, and 18.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Day School's successful book fair last week!

St. Margaret's Day School (SMDS) was awarded a Unity Gardens Grant to enhance their Green School Certification and National Wildlife Federation "Schoolyard Habitat site." In partnership with SMC Green/Environmental Committees, Homestead Gardens, and a local Girl Scout Daisy Troop #868, SMDS designed a native plant/pollinator community garden to attract beneficial bugs that the students can identify and study.
