Heroes of the Week

Sady Amend

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Jan Bryant and Sady Amend.

A Note to Mrs. Bryant, Middle School English:
"Jan Bryant - You are my hero. You have been teaching for a long time and you still love what you do. In fact, your passion grows every year! You are so positive and affirming of students. You are their cheerleader! You INSPIRE me!" Your Co-Worker in Christ

A Note to Mrs. Amend, 4th Grade Teacher:
"You have done a phenomenal job stepping up as a leader for the 4th grade team. You've been here two years and your expertise and talent as a teacher is so evident. I knew it when I was on your team and am continuing to see the fruit of your hard work in my 5th graders. You always work so hard and it's all worthy - do not grow weary! 5th Grade Team

MCS Hero of the Week Program:
The MCS "Hero of the Week" program recognizes one Middle School and one Elementary staff for heroic efforts. Staff members have the opportunity to write a "Hero Highlight" about one of their colleagues at any time during the week. On Tuesdays, Administrators will randomly select two "Heroes" from the Hero box of written notes and, along with the affirmation of their colleagues, they will enjoy a convenient parking spot for the entire following week. All notes will be kept in the Hero box for possible future selection.

Elementary Chapel - JoyFULL

Our "JoyFULL" theme continued this week in elementary chapels with Ms. Kish's class creating a human alphabet of our theme word. Mr. Lucas and a group of 5th graders led a chopsticks rhythm band to Rend Collective's Song, "Joy of the Lord."  Enjoy the song at this link.

Using the three characters in the short video, Share, Care, Joy, Mrs. Celek illustrated what we are learning about being joyful in all circumstances, and keeping your eyes open to unselfishly give joy to others. Enjoy the video at this link.

"JoyFULL" Alphabet - Human Letters created by 4K

J is for Jesus who is the center of our JOY
O is for Others with a heart of service
Y is for You - The God of the Universe wants a relationship with You
F is for Filling your heart with God's Word to guide you
U is for Us telling others about Jesus' love for them
L is for Loving others with kind words and actions
L is for Living your life with a smile on your face and eyes to see God at work!

DON'T MISS - A Morning with Dr. Kelly Flanagan 10/12

MCS Parents & Guests, Friends of MCS, and Grandparents -

This is going to be a great morning for connection and receiving wisdom and inspiration from Dr. Kelly Flanagan. Kelly is a licensed clinical psychologist. In 2012, he discovered writing was the thing he never knew he always wanted to do, so he began the popular blog, UnTangled. Kelly is married to another clinical psychologist named, Kelly. "The Kellies" - as they are called by friends and family - have three children, and they have a deal with them: they teach the kids how to grow up, and the kids teach them how to grow young.

For a preview of Kelly's heart and wisdom, check out the TODAY SHOW INTERVIEW where Kelly discusses why he felt compelled to write a letter to his 4-year-old daughter from the makeup aisle. Click for video.

Mariners Christian School is going SOCIAL! Can we be friends?
It's time to focus on "getting the word out" about all of the great things that Mariners Christian School is DOING, TEACHING and MAKING! It's hard to believe that after 30 years, some people in Orange County still don't know about us. Well, that's about to change! We have some great Social Media platforms to follow, tag and like that will highlight our student accomplishments, special milestones, events, sports, chapels, music, arts, affirm our teachers and share moments just being kids at MCS. We want to use social media as a tool to engage our MCS community, our neighborhoods, churches, friends, followers and new audiences. We have many joyFULL MCS stories to share!

"Your Story Matters"

"Your story matters." Guest speaker Daniel Orduña, Narrative Church Pastor

Middle school had a full chapel program on Monday morning!  Our student-led worship teams continue to draw us into worship each week. Our guest speaker was a student favorite Daniel Orduña. Daniel's message was simple, yet powerful: "Your story matters!" He shared with them that God is authoring the grand narrative, and that each one of us is an important character. From Ephesians 2:10 he explained that our Heavenly Father has already prepared good works for us to carry out. When all of us together choose to walk in the path the He has laid out for us, the result is a joyFULL campus, that spreads out, furthering His Kingdom and creating a joyFULL community!

Prior to Daniel's message, ASB rolled out our MCS Service Focus for the year:
Local Outreach - to be Jesus' hands and feet in our community. ASB shared the many ways people are hurting in our own community, and how we can make a difference and further His Kingdom right here in Orange County by offering our time and services. Please see the Shalimar details in this e-news for information on how your middle school student can participate in our first outreach opportunity!

MS Policies and Expectations Implemented October 2nd
In middle school, the month of September has served as an opportunity to teach and train students regarding all policies and expectations. Part of this training has focused on uniform guidelines and dress code expectations. All expectations have been clearly communicated to both parents and students and students have been given the opportunity and time to make sure they have the proper school attire. As we begin the second month of school, we want to clearly communicate that the expectation is that students will apply this training into practice as they adhere to all uniform and dress code guidelines.

It is also important to communicate that, beginning Monday, October 2nd, dress guidelines will be fully implemented and enforced. Accountability to all guidelines will be provided to any middle school student who does not meet MCS uniform guidelines.

If you have any questions about uniform or dress code guidelines or how these policies are implemented, follow this link to the MS Uniform Guidelines page here, see our MS Uniform Reminders page here, or contact Mrs. Niles at [email protected].

It's go time - make sure you are meeting these expectations for the school year!

An Invitation to the MCS Community:
8th Grade Leadership Commissioning Chapel October 2nd
The MCS community is invited to attend middle school chapel this Monday (10/2) from 8-8:45AM to join us in commissioning the 8th grade class into leadership. This chapel is the culmination of a leadership series conducted throughout the month of September to train and challenge our 8th graders to be Godly leaders and Godly examples on this campus and beyond. Chapel will be an opportunity for us to join together in praying over our students as they accept the 1 Timothy 4:12 challenge and live out the calling to be examples to all believers.

While the entire MCS Community is invited, Mrs. Harrison sent out a special Commissioning Chapel Invitation  to our 8th grade parents with further explanation about this impactFULL event.
