PTC WEEK HAS CHANGED - SEE BELOW
LETTER FROM MRS. RYAN
Dear Parents,

Today's good news is that is still looks very feasible that we will be back on our home campus in January.  The interior of our main building will have a beautiful facelift with new flooring, ceilings and fresh paint throughout. There is also a plan to add a new HVAC system in the main building that would include upgraded ventilation and air conditioning. The latest information I have on the debris clean- up of Cardinal Newman, St. Rose, and some of the surrounding areas also indicates that our students can return to campus in January.  Our diocesan superintendent has been attending various meetings with FEMA and civil authorities.  She has told me there will be monitoring systems in place for air quality.  I will pass on more information about this as I receive it.

When we return to our home campus, our Kindergartners will be housed in the classroom next to the science lab and the 2 nd graders will be in the chapel while that portion of the building is re-constructed.  That project will likely be completed in late spring of 2018.  The reconstruction of the preschool will likely be completed in winter of 2018.

You should be very proud of your children for the way they are settling into their new school environment.  Thank you for your patience as we work to invent or modify new procedures to ensure the best possible learning environment in our new space.  Please understand that we needed time with our students to establish these routines.  Now that these systems are underway, there will be opportunities for parents who have clearance to volunteer for various events on campus. The Parent Association is still planning to have our traditional St. Nick's Day and the Santa Secret Store.

We have re-instituted Kinder-care and YMCA After-school Care. The Y is now open until 6:00 PM for those families who need it. Early morning care, for those who are registered, will begin tomorrow.  If you are signed up for this program, you can drop off at 7:30 AM. Eventually, we will be open by 7:15 AM each day. And
I know you are looking forward to having the hot lunch program back and we are currently exploring the feasibility of making that happen.

Lastly, I want to assure you that the parish maintenance and grounds staff, who have worked very hard with us on the transition, have all completed the same rigorous Safe Environment process that is required for all diocesan employees.  Please remind each other to treat them with the respect they deserve.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal
MORNING CARE RESUMES TOMORROW
(Those students who are registered and who have paid the annual fee) may be dropped off at 7:30 am
All other students may not arrive before 7:45 am

YMCA After-School care is now open until 6pm.
Tuition Credits/SMART Tuition Credits  - Important Information regarding tuition accounts

Per our previous message regarding Fire Relief, tuition credits for all families have been applied to parent's tuition accounts.
Credits are calculated using this formula:
Full tuition, minus parish scholarship, service hour discounts,  and  tuition assistance.

For all families, the fire related credit of one tenth of the total tuition has been credited under the name Tuition Credit - Fires. Band, Spanish, some Athletic programs and $100.00  Kinder-care  credits have also been applied.   Each family is receiving an individual statement detailing the discounts applied, as well as a SMART Tuition or Quick Books statement.

This week, the Wednesday envelope includes a letter from the Finance Committee asking about your family's situation after the wildfires. Please fill out and return the form as we would like to hear from everyone. If you have requested a Fire Relief Discount or need to apply for Fire Relief Tuition Assistance, please indicate that on your form.

SMART TuitionSMART Tuition has been suspended while we sorted out the accounting after the fire.  Tuition payments  will resume after November 12, 2017

Each family with SMART Tuition has an individual account.  Parent's  can log in and change their address, banking information and see the details of the account. If you need login assistance, SMART Tuition customer service is available 24/7 at 1-888-868-8828.  Please notify and update the school office of any address changes as well.

Thank you for your patience during this difficult transition.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE DATES HAVE CHANGED
As stated in last Wed. Newsletter, Parent/Teacher Conference week (11/27 - 12/1)has been postponed.
M 11/27 - F 12/1 now be a regular full day schedule for students.

PTC's are being re-scheduled for Thu 12/7 & Fri 12/8
Families will receive their scheduled conference time for one of these 2 days in next weeks Wednesday envelope. Unfortunately, we can not accept conference time requests. If you can not keep your assigned 15 minute conference slot, we understand, and you can contact the teacher via email to see about re-scheduling the conference another week and time, per the teachers schedule.

Due to the loss of so many school days, these adjustments to the schedule must be made.
We appreciate everyone's effort to make your assigned conference.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING A LUNCH (and snack) EVERY DAY.

AFTER-SCHOOL
PICK UP

MAKE SURE ALL THOSE WHO PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE ROUTINE
  • THANK YOU to everyone for following the staggered pick up after school! It is working great!
  • USE YOUR PLACARD IN YOUR WINDSHIELD PLEASE! More important than ever, using your family name placard will help US identify more quickly the car to the child. If you DON'T have one, WE NEED YOU TO MAKE YOURSELF ONE! We don't have the capability at this time to make new placards. LAST NAME - LARGE LETTERS - FRONT RIGHT WINDSHIELD.
  • STAGGERED PICK-UP SCHEDULE:
  • PICK UP 1: K - 5TH PARENTS PICK UP 2:45-3:00 PM
  • PICK UP 2: 6TH-8TH (and their siblings) PARENTS PLEASE DON'T ARRIVE UNTIL 3:05PM. Those 6th-8th grade students with younger siblings, those siblings will wait with their older sibling for pick up at 3:05PM
  • Timing really is everything in this downtown location!
  • Why is there no wiggle room in the pick up time? There are OTHER parish activities, religious classes and events that come to life after 3pm, so teachers & students need to vacate as soon as possible.

Communication & School Safety

Communication with parents is important. The weekly school newsletter is a great tool for parents to stay informed. And, as you now know, we use text messaging to keep parents updated with important reminders, as well as in the event of an emergency at school.

School Safety:  The safety of everyone on our campus is paramount to us. Parent Volunteers must be compliant with Diocese requirements, and we all understand what 'stranger danger' means! Though you may feel comfortable being on campus, some of us may not know who you are. All visitors must come to the office and check in with us before coming on campus. We appreciate your cooperation.

Please click on the link HERE for important information regarding what to do if there were an emergency at school.

School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!

Fever
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
Vomiting/Diarrhea A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
Lice
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
The 24 hour test
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Fever 100+
  • Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
  • Unusual rash (see Dr.)
  • A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
Reminder: Children may not keep medication of any kind with them during the school day.
