"The Seven Keys to Service that
Prove the Golden Rule"
Inspired by her grandfather's ideals at his Disney World-area hotel, Stephanie's customer service journey began at the front desk of Chicago's Drake Hotel. With a career labyrinth from Les Clefs d'Or concierge to Kendall College professor, and founder of Service Speaks Solutions, she uses her "Be My Guest" mantra to develop and instill service culture in a wide range of industries around the world.
With service as a universal theme, Stephanie will lead our conversation surrounding the seven elements of the Guest Service experience. This lively discussion centers on how authenticity, intuition, and empathy impact our daily lives.

Next Sunday's, Nov. 12, Faith & Practice
Come learn about our new Peer Ministry program for our 7-12th graders at Faith & Practice. This program was introduced by Chad Senuta, Associate for Youth and Campus Ministry, from the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. Here's what he has to say about it:
"
What I love about Peer Ministry is that it's so much more than just a resource or curriculum. It's a way of seeing and practicing ministry with young people. If you think of youth ministry like hiking a trail, most places are offering better shoes and fast shipping. And that's helpful, but how do I know I'm on the right trail? Which one is going to get us where we'd like to go? And how can I get more young people out walking and leading the way? I believe in Peer Ministry, because it points out a path that develops young leaders, and shows us how to walk that path together, creating an infectious culture of youth ministry where the hallmarks are welcoming, listening, and helping. Peer Ministry produces leaders that embody the Good Samaritan story and follow Jesus' example of ministering to those in need every day, everywhere, and in every relationship."
Diane Krieman, Laura Sniader and Emily Baillos will share more about the program and lead you through a few exercises to help experience the learning firsthand. (Jen Baker, our other facilitator, unfortunately can't join us but will be with us in spirit.)

Why We Sing What We Sing When We Sing
Richard will take us through the beginnings of liturgical music from before the time of Jesus through the modern day. Learn what we have adapted from the Temple in Jerusalem to the place of Gregorian Chant to ancient and modern Hymnody. It's no accident that we sing the hymns we do.

Liturgy of the Word
Go to a Shabbat service at a synagogue on Friday night, you might be surprised to discover how familiar it feels. We have adapted Jewish rituals back to the time of Solomon's Temple. We have also adapted pieces of our service from the Greek Mystery Religions from Jesus's day. This portion of our program will cover from the Opening sentences to the Peace.

his forms the second part of our Episcopal Service each Sunday. The earliest written copies come from the second century. Discover the principles present in each prayer that tie together everything from Basil of Caesarea in 387 AD to Elizabethan versions present in the first prayer book of 1549 to other contemporary Eucharistic Prayers.

Christmas Pageant and Children & Youth Service
Sunday, December 17
All children and youth are invited to participate in our Christmas Pageant and Children & Youth-led Service. On Sunday, December 17 our young people will put on our traditional Nativity play as well as lead all other aspects of our worship service. Everyone is encouraged to sign up to participate in one or both activities, as they wish.

Wrap & Roll Caroling Party
December 10 - from 4:00-7:30
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!" -Buddy the Elf in Elf
It's (almost) that time of year! Mark your calendars and call your family and friends-the caroling party is around the corner. Thrown by the youth and parents of our congregation, we will wrap presents for the homeless, eat dinner (and Christmas cookies!) together, sing carols, and get a visit from St. Christopher-I mean St. Nicholas! It's a great time to celebrate with your church family and introduce your friends and relatives to our church community. There's a recommended donation of $15/person and $30 total per family, but no need to RSVP. The more the merrier, so save the date!

Book Group
We have selected our next book:
The Rebirthing of God: Christianity's Struggle for New Beginnings, by respected spiritual leader, peacemaker and scholar John Philip Newell. It's about nothing less than the future of the Church and Christianity itself. Book Group meets every Monday morning 11:00-12:00 in the McClain Room. We typically read one chapter per week. Are you looking to make a difference in the life of someone in need this Christmas? Now you can be an Angel!
The Christ Church Christmas Angels Program is one of our largest and most important outreach ministries. This year we will provide food, basic necessities and gifts for:
- 110 families with little or no income
- 55 low-income senior citizens, most living alone with no family
- over 150 residents of 6 Episcopal agencies
- 50 homeless men and women
- Families in desperate circumstances living here in New Trier Township
How Can You Help?
You can adopt a family
after this Sunday's service.
You can donate funds
These funds will be used to cover the cost of gifts for senior citizens,
Episcopal Agency residents and New Trier families.

Feed My Starving Children
Turn Hunger into Hope with
Your Own Two Hands
Saturday, December 9, from 9AM to 11AM, Christ Church will travel to
Libertyville, Illinois to help Feed My Starving Children. We have decided to carpool instead of spending the money on tour buses. We will gather in the parking lot of Christ Church behind the 470 Maple Street address at 7:45AM. We will leave promptly at 8AM. We will return at noon. We committed to bring 40 people.
More importantly for us, they accept volunteers as young as 5 when accompanied by an adult. This means that for families with small children, this can be an event that everyone can participate in together.

A Just Harvest
Christ Church serves twice a month at A Just Harvest, a community kitchen, in Rogers Park, serving dinner 365 days a year to anyone in need.
This is a great family opportunity to "reach out." We need cooks (done in your home), servers (age 12+), and people to provide milk, fruit, and salad each time we are "on deck." To learn more go to:

Lay Chaplains: Bringing the Warmth of
Christ Church to You
Trained parishioners visit those who are homebound, ill, or facing a time of grief or crisis. Lay Chaplains provide companionship and support, and may pray with you, or share communion (from the reserved sacrament) if desired. The chaplains serve under the training and leadership of our clergy. To request a visit, just call the office or contact Nadia 773-387-9128 or [email protected].
