CEBC honoured with award from DEWA
On 23rd October 2017, at a Gala Dinner held at the Grant Hyatt Dubai,  CEBC was presented an award by  H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. This award, accepted by CEBC CEO Stephane Le Gentil, recognised the contribution of CEBC to the Dubai Solar Show and the DSS Seminar Week. We are grateful and humbled for the recognition and support from DEWA.

Dubai Solar Show Seminar Week 2017 a great success
CEBC along with its knowledge partners, hosted the Dubai Solar Show Seminar Week at the Dubai Solar Show/WETEX during October. The event featured expert speakers from all over the world, and saw thousands of visitors to the seminar area during the show. Global EVRT launching longest electric vehicle road trip In Middle East

GCC and EU experts share policies, practices for energy efficiency and cooling technologies 
This month CEBC participated at t he Kuwait Society of Engineers/EU-GCC two-day workshop in Kuwait. The event aimed to foster partnerships between stakeholders from the EU and the GCC to discuss energy efficiency and cooling technologies suitable for the region, exchange best practices and advance collaboration between the EU and GCC. Launch of the 2017/2018 CEBC Schools Programme
Around 30 students from Dubai visited the Dubai Solar Show in a field trip organised by  CEBC. Students saw a presentation from  Dubai Solar Schools, made solar powered art at a workshop hosted by  Imdaad, and learnt about clean technologies from  ENGIE. Dubai Vision Awards Ceremony
On 30 October  CEBC joined the Dubai Vision Awards Ceremony, run by our Partners the S heikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and Dubai Solar Schools/Arch Italy. Winning schools presented their ideas on the green future of Dubai, and were awarded AED40,000 for their efforts. CEBC was proud to present the cheque for the winners of the ' Imagine Tomorrow' category, to the New Indian Model School.   [Read More]

Green finance a key component of sustainable growth strategy
Mohammad Salama,  Standard Chartered UAE, provides his thoughts on green finance and how it fits into the growth strategy of the UAE. According to the UAE's State of Green Economy Report, of the country's 79 financial institutions, 48% already provide a green product/service, and at least 0.27% of GDP is invested in domestic green investment. This will need to continue to grow to meet the objectives of the Green Agenda 2015-2030.  [Read More]

Community called to pool resources to fund solar projects
Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE)  and  DP World  signed an agreement to use crowdfunding to fund the retrofitting of warehouses in Mina Rashid. Through crowdfunding, UAE residents will be able to fund a total of 3,000KW of solar energy, and receive a return through the KW hours generated.  Dubai Carbon is working with Innogy International Middle East on developing a blockchain technology for this application.  [Read More]

IFC-led consortium Invests $653m in solar park in Egypt
An  IFC -led syndicate provided a $653m debt package to finance the construction of 13 solar power plants near the Egyptian city of Aswan. The plants will be part of the larger Benban Solar Park, which, once complete, will be the largest solar installation in the world.   The power plants will generate up to 752MW of solar power supplying Egypt with clean, renewable energy and contributing to energy security in the region.   [Read More]

Oman utility company plans wind resource assessment
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company launched a wind assessment campaign during October. The campaign will be conducted across Oman, and the tender included the provision of equipment/sensors, installation, operation and maintenance and data validation. The research findings will be used to support the future development of wind power projects in Oman.  [Read More]
Saudi Acwa plans $4B renewables splurge next year
Acwa Power plans to spend USD4 billion on renewable energy projects next year, with plants to be developed in Dubai, Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. Acwa Power will use project financing for the plants, with 80% of the cost to come from debt and the remainder equity.  [Read More]

Solar panels to hit Dubai golf courses
Dubai Golf will install solar panels across its facilities after signing a Dh31.6M deal to implement energy conservation measures. It signed an energy performance agreement with  Etihad Energy Services Company  on a guaranteed energy savings basis for the next eight years. The panels will deliver up to 680KW of peak power, to help reduce electricity costs.   [Read More]
Itron Receives Prestigious Chairman's Award from the Alliance to Save Energy
Itron has received the Chairman's Award from the Alliance to Save Energy for its OpenWay Riva IoT solution for smart cities and smart utilities. The annual award is given to an individual or organization that has shown exemplary service to the cause of energy efficiency.  [Read More]

UAE leads in creation of green energy jobs in Gulf
Remarks made by officials of the  International Renewable Energy Agency  and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment at the Dubai Science Park Green Leadership forum confirmed that the Gulf Arab state has implemented the new strategic green energy policy, which stimulates the creation of green energy jobs.   [Read More]


Dubai Supreme Council of Energy unveils winners of Emirates Energy Awards
On 24 October the  Dubai Supreme Council of Energy hosted the 3rd Emirates Energy Awards. Enerwhere crowdfunding hits nearly $700K
Enerwhere , a clean energy utility company, has raised more investor funds than any other to date on the Eurecca equity crowdfunding platform, now reaching 94% of its $700k target. Investors are looking for energy businesses focused on renewable energy, highlighting that only 3% of renewable energy investment globally is concentrated in the Middle East.  [Read More]

EY: China remains most attractive renewable energy market
China holds its position at the top of the latest  Ernst and Young Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index  (RECAI) after overtaking the US, while India's second position in the top 40 country ranking looks increasingly precarious.  This follows cancelled  wind energy  power purchase agreements and steep falls in tariffs bid in recent auctions.  [Read More]

Energetics develops National Energy Efficiency Data Framework for Oman
Energetics completed a project for the Authority for Electricity Regulation in Oman to develop a national energy efficiency data framework for electricity consumption. The results are being used by the Omani government to help establish national energy efficiency policies and programs.  Energetics partnered with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) to complete the work. Dubai Carbon, ENGIE sign MoU to develop renewable energy
The  Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence  and  ENGIE  signed an MoU to seek opportunities to apply solutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency in Dubai and throughout the region.  The partnership enables joint work to be undertaken in the fields of sustainability, the environment, climate change and social responsibility.   [Read More]

Renault out to lead green future in the Middle East
Renault released details of a six-year plan which it hopes will cement its reputation as an EV trailblazer in the region. The Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi motors alliance has pledged to launch 12 new zero-emission electric vehicles by 2022 and is a significant step in supporting the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.  [Read More]
DC Pro expands as green demand grows
UAE-based engineering consultancy  DC Pro says its new offices will allow it to service the growing demand for renewable energy from businesses in Australia. The offices will work with public and private entities spanning the east and west electricity grids. DC Pro plans to adapt the latest innovations and approaches to meet the energy distribution, generation and storage needs of Australia consumers.   [Read More]
DEWA to install solar carports at Dubai headquarters
DEWA  announced it intends to install solar carports at its headquarters in Dubai, as well as the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment building. The project is underway and aims to install panels at parking lots at both sites to generate clean electricity. The move is part of DEWA's efforts to increase its reliance on clean energy and support Dubai's smart transformation. [Read More]

Job Vacancy: Lighting Myanmar Programme Manager with IFC
IFC is seeking a Program Manager (PM) to oversee and manage the Lighting Myanmar Program based in Yangon, Myanmar.  The PM will manage the implementation of the Lighting Myanmar project and provide support to other Energy & Water Advisory projects in Myanmar and the broader region.
